My L1 token thesis People ask why eth is down so bad? It’s because of lack of demand for tokens on eth Look at solana this cycle. Why did sol pump so hard? Sol speculation itself is not the only reason, or even the main reason. Pump.fun and meme tokens is the main reason. The way on most chain liquidity pools work is you need to pair the token in demand with another asset, such as SOL, usdc, or ETH. Most chains/projects in that chain use the L1 gas token as the default pair. If a token has 100mil in liquidity, and is a standard uni v2 style pool, that means 50mil of the native gas token is locked into an LP pool So back to solana. We had multiple memes pushing 100mil mc, 1bil mc, and then $trump which had so much demand that to pushed SOL from $215 to $270 in 24 hours. A token that was already that already had a 100bil marketcap and pumped it another 30% in one day. Now that the meme cycle is mostly dead, SOL experienced a large selloff, this is obviously correlated with the market as a whole but with the LP pools decreasing in liquidity, a lot of SOL hits the open market. So back to ETH. What do we need to save eth? Well the issues are that there is no driver of demand for eth in defi and no natural value accrual to eth. That we had an entire mini cycle for AI tokens on base but it was paired with virtuals so eth didn’t get locked into LP pools and experience a pump. And people could so easily bridge/on board other tokens to base that they didn’t need to buy eth to buy these Ai tokens. ETH (and all L1s) need to find value accrual in some way. They need token launches to pair with eth or defi projects to use and lock eth. Or they are destined to bleed out
