“God is greater.”
or more naturally in English: “God is the greatest.”
The relevant part says:
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…”
This creates two major principles.
Establishment Clause
Government cannot establish an official religion.
In simple terms:
No national church
Government can't favor one religion over another
Government can't force religion on people
Free Exercise Clause
People are free to practice their religion.
Meaning:
You can worship how you want
You can follow religious practices
Government generally cannot interfere unless it violates other laws
