Rep @MikeOdioso and I are giving testimony today on HB 661 which would prohibit NIL payments to students grades 7-12 for the following reasons: 1. School athletics are an extension of the classroom and meant to teach discipline, work ethic, character, leadership, communication, and fitness. 2. Ohio should not ruin amateur athletics because of one county judge. 3. Of the states that permit NIL, 35 do so because their state legislature has decided not to get involved. 4. NIL will worsen the recruiting that is already happening in Ohio. 5. There is already enough pressure on teenagers. Among NCAA athletes, the number of actual suicides have doubled. 6. We should protect our students from having to hire agents and tax advisors. 7. Ohio should learn from what is happening in the NCAA. Amateurism, loyalty, and teamwork is being replaced by greed as players transfer and make more money than NFL players. 8. Extremely talented students should move on the the Olympics, a professional tour, or college. What do you call an individual who is paid for their athletic participation… A PROFESSIONAL
