Today we’re announcing that Respan has raised a $5M seed round led by @GradientVC.
We’re building the self-driving observability, evals, and gateway for AI agents.
100+ teams already use Respan.
1B+ logs/month.
2T+ tokens/month.
And we’re just getting started.

@petkevichdan the hardest part of on-prem is networking
easy to buy a couple gpus and hook something up
really annoying to make your assistant useful when you're traveling outside the home. gotta point it to a domain that you also manage (and need to always renew), or app on your phone
English

the MOTHER app
Pretty soon I'll be able to run a open source model on a M* mac mini and have on-prem for my life/family. Amazing. I won't have to trust Altman, amodei, or any of these tech bros for whom I am priority #10^20.
So I'm thinking through first and second order effects of this. Obvious first one is to buy apple. I think tho, apple sort of stumbled into this one. They will continue to follow the cookian way of iteratively better chips.I think their days of innovation on software are over. See Siri. So I don't see an apple made "openclaw for normies." So someone else will make it an run it on apple hardware.
But let's zoom out for a sec. Most normies do not know what cloud or on prem is. They want an app that does all the hard stuff for them. Call it MOTHER. They live their meatbag life, MOTHER takes care of the details. Obv mother can't fuck anything up.
So maybe the world looks like:
-Poor normies who don't understand tech - use cloud hosted mother for $5/mo.
Mass Affluent and wealthy who understand the value of privacy - running openclaw equivalent on M* on prem hardware
Enterprise - Now this is where on-prem is really going to start winning. Could be an biz in just setting up on prem for business and vibecoding equivalents of all the software they pay for today. Turns into enterprise costco for software
I think 1 and 2 are the same biz. Winner builds a context moat (knows everything about you and setting up a competitor would take too long). #3 the moat is just enterprise relationships approval process, and that I think enterprises will always have too many stupids to do it themselves.

@reprinted3D I think it's just some of the normal venus images cropped and panned over slightly

English

Apparently, the probe was video-capable? I had never seen this before.
(Again, IF it is real; I don't always trust this site 'cause they post a lot of AI-generated stuff.)

Venus is a very dangerous planet—going there is like playing a video game on “Hell Mode.” 🔥 In the 1960s and 1970s, the Soviet Union sent robotic probes called Venera to explore it. The probes survived on the surface for less than an hour because the pressure was 90 times stronger than Earth and the temperature was hot enough to melt metal. But even in their final moments, while they were overheating and breaking apart, they still managed to take the only real photos ever captured from Venus’s surface. Photos from a place no human could ever survive.
English

@thenanyu Yes. Documents are a visual format, so just treat it as an image.
Plus you never know what's in a pdf. It might be a clean pdf with a bunch of scanned images in it. Or something that got mangled by adobe ocr. Always best to just read the document the same way a human would.
English

Is it better to just render PDFs as images and OCR them rather than read directly then?

The Verge with technical details on why AI is so bad at reading PDF files:
English

@lex_node I don't know, I thought the same until I saw enterprise corporate folks try using chatgpt...
Anyone who can communicate with another human and give them written instructions is usually pretty good at it.
But turns out that's like 0.1% of people
English

@dexhorthy I did make this. And hereby authorize you to redistribute in the name of improving the agent lexicon
English

can we plz settle on what a "harness" is quickly
harness == the coding agent (claude code, codex, etc)
apparatus == the stuff you build around the coding agent (backpressure, mcp, ralph wiggum, etc etc)
i'm tired of this blurry line where ppl use "harness" to mean both the agent and the stuff you build around it

@petkevichdan Most people date in college. Since it's a good wealth / class signal.
But for those who did not succeed earlier, they require an MBA to find love.
English

i cant think of a greater ngmi signal than getting a harvard mba today.

@madhawkcristian @shauseth unironically the only idea test you need

@shauseth If it were successful, I would’ve known about it already
