Quebec gets ~$14 BILLION in equalization payments every year, half the national program, while charging the lowest electricity rates in Canada.
This Fraser Institute study shows why: by keeping Hydro-Québec prices artificially low, Quebec deliberately reduces its measured “fiscal capacity” and qualifies for way more federal transfers.
Alberta? We get $0.
We pay massive federal taxes from our incomes and oil/gas sector (which gets fully clawed back in the formula), yet subsidize this system. A modest hydro price increase in Quebec could save Canadian taxpayers billions -- if Ottawa fixed the broken “fixed growth rule.”
This is exactly why equalization feels rigged against Alberta. Time to get out of it.

Trudeau flew in on a private jet for a $100,000+ speaking engagement after buying a mansion in Quebec to say the wealthy need to limit their wealth intake. Fresh off drinking from a plastic cup at Coachella (USA) after banning single use plastics in Canada and telling people not to go to the USA

Speaking in Singapore, Justin Trudeau says the wealthy of the world needs to "step up" and limit their wealth intake. Trudeau is represented by the Harry Walker Agency, and charges a minimum fee of $100,000 for public speaking.

@MarcNixon24 So a $90b is no problem but another $3.5b is a major issue? Give me a break. They aren’t even keeping track at this point.

@Mortgagedoddyyc With a government that messes up everything that it touches, I will never understand why people want them touching more stuff.

Wow because none of the government programs have cost overruns ever. Why is Canada embracing socialism when the answer is less government

BREAKING: Toronto approves city-run grocery stores In a 21–3 vote, councillors backed Anthony Perruzza’s plan to launch 4 municipally run stores to offer cheaper food. Big test for public retail.

I didn’t think I could hate Reinhart and Bennett any more than I already did but here we are.
