BREAKING: A new operator has been announced for the historic Kursaal in Southend! Southend City Council revealed today that a deal has been secured to reopen and run the iconic seafront building. The announcement was made live on stage in the High Street on Saturday afternoon during Southend City Day celebrations, where the leader of the council shared the news publicly for the first time. Councillor Daniel Cowan said he had been holding onto the news for several months before finally confirming the agreement. He said: “The new operator has a strong record of building successful businesses here in Southend. They know the city. They believe in the city.” The company set to take over the Kursaal is Star Amusements, run by the Remblance family, who already operate several well-known venues along the seafront including arcades, eateries, pubs, entertainment venues and Kingpins Bowling. During the announcement, Councillor Cowan presented Nick Singer, Operations Director at Star Amusements, and owner John Remblance with a symbolic ‘key to the Kursaal’. The council leader also confirmed that the building will have a “leisure focussed” future once it reopens. However, the historic venue will not reopen immediately. The building requires significant repairs first, and a new legal agreement between the council and the operator still needs to be finalised. Councillor Cowan added: “This administration said that we would secure a meaningful future for the Kursaal. “And today on Southend city day, we’re proud to say we have delivered on that promise to you Southend.” Southend West & Leigh MP Bayo Alaba welcomed the announcement, saying: “Since my election, this has been one of my top priorities. I’m looking forward to the new chapter of the Kursaal!”

@talkdants I am actually quite fond of the system. The only flaw is how teams could finish so low down but win the playoffs but be promoted for the sake of being a bogey team for those above. Home team advantage is something that should be implemented in every league for finishing higher.

Fans of National League clubs are going to have to tell me how this works out, how it FEELS to have this system now it’s in place. It’s slightly different of course in that only one NL side gets automatic promotion but still, you get my drift!
