@MizGolightly @DaleEstey I don't know a small magazine editor who works 9-5/M-F. I've sent out replies at 3am, on Sundays, and on holidays (I try to be sensitive about sending rejections on holidays, but I get work done then and forget). There's no good or bad day or time to submit - it's all the same.

@DaleEstey Also, Monday submissions aren't likely to be read that day anyway. (Speaking from my experience as a senior prose editor for @TypehouseLitMag.)

@fadeastride @erinhahn_author One day, the new principal didn't tell my dad they were doing a drill. So he's outside just mowing the lawns. The teachers were sobbing in their classrooms because if "the drill" was going on but Mr. (REDACTED) was outside that meant it might be actually real.

@erinhahn_author Oh no we were explicitly told “if you’re in the hall when an active shooter alert happens you’ll need to hide in a bathroom bc we’re not allowed to let you in the classroom after the door is locked.” So that’s nice to know.

@erinhahn_author Yeah, during drills in middle school they would have a female student go door to door pleading to be let in because she didn't want to die, she would scream and plead, but we weren't allowed to help, I started bringing noise cancelling headphones to school, just in case.

@erinhahn_author @UnexpectedSAHM During one of my 5th grade son’s drills they actually kicked the door in and broke it, moving their barricade. I was so angry and upset but his class was commended “for being silent.” They were proud of themselves.

@erinhahn_author 2/2 I opened it, and before I even recognized that it was my principal dressed in full black, she put two fingers to my head and said "bang, you're dead."

@paigebnelson @erinhahn_author @grundercats My son’s friend was in the hallway when they had a lockdown drill, and was locked out. My son still has nightmares about him screaming and banging on the door, and that was just a drill. 4th grade. My son stopped going to the bathroom at school, afraid he would be locked out.

Please read the responses to this. Our kids go through this *without* an active shooter. Imagine the trauma, and then imagine the scenario for real.

@jameslchampion If they say you can submit five definitely do! We take multiple pieces sometimes from poets, and sending us the full amount of pieces increases your odds of multiple acceptances!

do you submit 5 poems to increase the odds, or like 2 or 3 you’re very confident in so as not to “weaken the batch” ??

I'm angry and I'm sad, and I feel so helpless, even while doing what I can as an activist.

@ChrisEvans As a teacher I’ve had trainings on how to pack a gun shot wound like a combat medic. I know exactly how many seconds it takes to barricade my classroom door once you hear gun shots, because I’ve been trained in that too. I’m so furious. Kids and teachers should be safe in schools
