📸 I’ve seen a lot of Barcelona fans unfairly trolling Marcus Rashford after their UCL exit, and honestly, it’s strange to see him being made the scapegoat. Rashford had just one half-chance across both legs, yet somehow he’s the one blamed. Meanwhile, Pau Cubarsí’s red card was a huge turning point, Eric García’s dismissal killed the game. Pedri failed to track Marcos Llorente’s run for Lookman’s goal, and also lost the ball leading to García’s red. There were missed chances too: Dani Olmo, Fermín (whose header was saved by Musso), and Gavi also had a clear chance but saw his shot blocked, while Ferran did find the net only for it to be ruled offside. On top of that, Hansi Flick stuck with a risky high line even after going 2–0 up. You can list so many factors, but Rashford was never the reason Barcelona went out. With 22 G/A, he’s actually had a solid season. Either pay up or send him back.

I feel like a lot of fans have just defaulted to blaming the high line and saying Flick didn’t adjust it in big games, but what does ‘adjusting the high line’ actually mean? It doesn’t mean abandoning it completely and sitting deep for 90 minutes. It means varying your approach, dropping into a mid-block at times and pressing again based on triggers. And that’s exactly what Barça did after the second goal. As you can see in this picture which was the very start of Atleti's attack before their goal, the team was already in a mid-block with a deeper line and no constant press. Then Atleti get a throw-in, Lookman has a heavy touch and plays it backwards, that’s a clear pressing trigger, so the team steps up. That’s not poor management, that’s textbook modern football. If you completely drop off, you hand control and momentum to Atleti and allow them to play freely. Flick did adjust, and he did it logically. But when you miss 2-3 easy chances to kill the tie away from home, football punishes you. That's not a system failure, that's the reality of elite competition.

I understand that people get emotional after this cruel eliminations but guys can we be a little bit realistic here, you really can’t put blame on Flick for this tie. He outcoached Simeone in the first leg, even while playing an entire half with 10 men. And in the second leg, where do you even start? Flick basically set the team up for a 4–1 or 5–1 win in the first half, the game should’ve been over from there, but it’s not his fault the players couldn’t finish their chances. Maybe the second-half subs weren’t perfect, especially taking Ferran off, but once the red card happened, I don’t think it would’ve changed much anyway. Eric completely killed our chances there. And even after that, Flick still tried to find solutions, pushing Araújo up as a second striker and shifting Roony to the right with Lamine moving central. Those changes got us that last chance for Araujo, and yet again, we missed an easy opportunity. Seriously, what more is he supposed to do, go out there and score himself?
