Since the news broke about Cesar Chavez, our staff and leadership have been taking time to reflect on the tragic news. For many in our movement who've dedicated our lives to the cause, this was someone who shaped our understanding of what organizing could achieve. That legacy, and the impact it holds for the Hispanic and Latino community and for generations of those in labor is not something we take lightly. The weight of his actions affects many, but it is carried most by survivors. To the Survivors: We see you. We believe you. We stand with you. For too long, you carried a weight in silence that no one should ever have to bear. We honor those who have come forward and hold space for those who have not. Sharing your story is a deeply personal choice, and survivors do not owe it to anyone. We wish you healing and we honor your courage. We share this statement grounded in our responsibility to do better together. The labor movement is not defined by one person, but by all of us who choose to speak out, stand up, and build a culture rooted in dignity, safety, and accountability.

To the women who've been the force behind our union since our founding in 1972, we would not be where we are today without you. UAPD's strength was built, shaped, and fought for by women who refused to be silenced. The women in our ranks have led, organized, and fought tirelessly for our members and our profession. For more than 50 years, the UAPD has spoken up for our patients who depend on us and for the integrity of our profession. From rallies outside city halls, strike lines at our facilities, to negotiations at the bargaining table—we’ve never been afraid to stand together to protect patient care. Today, healthcare faces new challenges. Funding uncertainty driven by evolving policies, growing administrative burdens, increasingly complex insurance systems, unreasonable productivity metrics, and mounting pressure from corporate medicine that’s creating barriers to care. As these challenges grow, the need for clinicians to have a strong collective voice has never been more important. Stand up, fight back 📣 After nearly two years of a hard-fought legal battle against retaliation, we secured a $1.2 million settlement for clinicians at Peak Vista in Colorado Springs who were wrongfully terminated for speaking out against unsafe workloads and advocating for their patients. #ICYMI: Our advanced practice clinicians (APCs) at PeaceHealth in Washington state have ratified their first union contract! As our first ever APC-only bargaining unit, they secured enforceable legal protections through perseverance and unity. With just cause protections, binding arbitration, formal union representation rights, and a labor management committee, APCs now have a seat at the table to protect patient care. This means that standards of care, accountability, and protections are upheld. First contracts are about laying a strong foundation and our PeaceHealth APCs have accomplished that after a long, hard contract fight ✊ #union #contract #unionstrong #healthcareunion #healthcareworkers

Our hearts are heavy after the latest acts of violence and loss. The grief, pain, anger, and fear that so many are carrying are difficult to put into words, but cannot be ignored. Our deepest condolences are with the individuals, families, and communities affected by these tragedies.
