ICYMI, last week, professor emeritus John Clarke shared the Nobel Prize in physics with John Martinis and Michel Devoret, who worked alongside Clarke researching quantum tunneling while at Cal. And for chemistry, Professor Omar Yaghi was recognized for his work in developing metal-organic frameworks. Charles Huang ’93’s journey reflects the promise of public higher education. After graduating from Berkeley, he worked in his father’s business and gained manufacturing expertise. In the dot-com boom, Huang and his brother Kai '94 launched RedOctane, which grew from a video game rental service into a well-known brand name in the video game industry. He is the co-creator of Guitar Hero, the best-selling video game in 2007 and 2008. Huang continually pays forward his Berkeley education. He served as a past chair of the UC Berkeley Foundation and co-chair of the Light the Way campaign. Beyond Berkeley, he serves on boards of directors and as an adviser to many startups, venture funds, and nonprofit orgs.
