In December this year, UCT Law’s Institute for Marine & Environmental Law is hosting the IUCNAEL’s 23rd Colloquium on Environmental Law. The Faculty of Law is deeply saddened by the passing of Nicholas "Fink" Haysom yesterday, 18 March 2026, in New York City. A Faculty LLB alum, and recipient of a UCT LLD Honoris Causa (2012), Fink Haysom was internationally recognised for his significant contributions to human rights, constitutionalism, and conflict resolution, both in South Africa and internationally. Judge Kate Savage, Judge of the Labour Appeal and Western Cape High Court, talks about the context in which the Labour Relations Act of 1995 was promulgated, and the completely different current economic, employment and labour context in which labour law is practiced (at the launch of the latest annual edition of Acta Juridica). #UCTLaw

This evening the Faculty launches the latest annual edition of its journal Acta Juridica. Examining the Labour Relations Act 66 of 1995 (30 years on and 30 years beyond), this issue is edited by Profs Rochelle le Roux and Evance Kalula. Judge Kate savage is the guest speaker, starting now in the Oliver Tambo Moot court, Kramer Level 5.
