@chriscunningham@Princesss_Brat 4. Oh and we cannot forget to credit the LAN center who showed the world that the toughest game to run production for in all of esports let alone on a weekly basis is possible @HyperXArena with a special shot out to @AgentUno_ and his production team for showing us the way.
One final MomoCon post:
I am so excited to have met familiar and new faces. I wish there was more time to interact, but to me my main goal is running the event at a high level and letting our talented staff team really fill their roles well.
@Princesss_Brat did an incredible job taking the lead this year on project management leading up to the event. Given my job changes and life changes, she was able to get us to a place to be successful this past weekend. Her work does not go unnoticed and kept us all organized this year.
There were some unique things this allowed me to focus on. I have lots of anxiety and a high bar to set (I'm naturally very competitive, so I'm sure my former teammates can agree here) when it comes to running live events. We had some unique audibles during the draft, and to be honest they were all relatively easy to solve. One being the handicap ADA accessibility which prevented us from having 10 captains in a row. But 2 on the stage and 8 down on the floor wasn't that big of a deal. The AV team was working hard despite 2-3 blips in the projector to get back on track. On top of that, we finished 11 minutes early with the draft. With 60 players, I think the only person who legitimately had faith things would work out on time was Jacob - so props to him. I think it was great for our first start and we can only expand upon the draft next year.
The TOs did an incredible job as always. Shoutout to Danny, Mega, Squishy, Spicy, and Ariez. Nothing always goes as planned, but each of them bring a unique style which round out the team incredibly well. I do wish we didn't have to scramble on start.gg to fix the progressions, but it's more of a start.gg thing than on the TOs.
The commentary was phenomenal this year. This year is going to set the bar incredibly high for future years. The side stream commentary was great as well, and I appreciate the enthusiasm of players and parents throwing their hat in the ring to bring this year to life. Also- shoutout to Vikki who I'm sure we will see on the mic soon. Unfortunately, it didn't work out this year because of her commitment to Apex and Smash, but it goes without question we are garnering attention from notable / mainstream T1 Esport casters.
The MomoCon staff team was super accommodating and communicative with us. From Cagt all the way to the gaming team to get us what we needed in a quick amount of time. I was genuinely surprised how responsive they were in assisting us!
It's not about how you start - it's how you finish. We do need to work with Duo to understand why our stage is the only one year after year with audio issues, but other than the delay, this was our best year yet. We took away flags to gain live scoring for both formats, which IMO enhanced the stream tremendously. Mega did a great job communicating with their team, which was one of my main role's the last several years, and arguably did a much better job than me, since I'm not a natural TO. Diamond, Domo, Asmo, Kaori, and the other staff members were great (I know I'm missing the person in charge of graphics this year since they are new)
UGE's support in supplying switches, monitors, and handling a lot of our interactions with the staff has once again not gone unnoticed. Leo (DarkKing) has been a huge asset to the growth of the community, and his new partner Rich as well. I'm excited to collaborate further with them as USMK reaches new heights!
We were 30-60 minutes fashionably late this year, and I want us to do better to get back on time. This never happened in previous years. I did like our schedule and I hope we can keep it similar to how we ran this year.
Overall, I'm thrilled with the direction USMK is heading in. What started as a crazy project in '22 with 4 initial staff members has turned into the North American leader in offline racing.
While I may be in Europe more, I want to bridge the gap with Frenchy Karts and ideally serve as an ambassador, and with my LLC in place I have some unique ideas for how to push offline racing forward in 2026.
As of right now, I am not going anywhere. USMK has allowed me to fill the void of hosting concerts and events throughout the United States and Latin America. When COVID hit, I got let go from my job and was able to fuel my live event experience in getting USMK off the ground with the help of our team. Now, 3.5 years in, tournaments in other parts of the US and Mexico are now real possibilities.
I appreciate the kind words from everyone and I share in the excitement of MomoCon 2025. Let's continue to build a fun, competitive, and inclusive LAN atmosphere for years to come.
ps - this image is the origin story of USMK. It aged well.
@chriscunningham@Princesss_Brat 2. Admittedly it was a rocky road during the early days but UGL/UGE in partnership with MKC and USMK built a standard that others have emulated since. Looking forward to what we can build together going into MKW.
@chriscunningham@Princesss_Brat It's always quite fun working with you and the community at large. To believe that a small MK8DX tourney @DragonCon 2021 turned into all this is proof that one should never ignore even the smallest of opportunities. Thank you @chriscunningham and @USMKRacing for having faith.
From the 1000 yard stare of anticipation to 4 days of absolute exhilaration! Made it home safe and that makes another @Momocon in the books and it was definitely an all-timer.
