Thousands have gathered for the March on the DNC in Chicago this afternoon - speakers are addressing the crowd, calling for an end to US support of Israel. A march to take the streets in protest against the political convention is set to begin shortly.

The Democratic Socialists of America denounce the efforts of both Republican and Democrat politicians to whip up a frenzy about a so-called ‘crisis’ at the border, and more broadly, to sow fear or hate towards immigrants as people and immigration as a social reality. We are outraged both by the false and dehumanizing messages of xenophobia highlighted at the Republican National Convention, and by the prospect of similarly unacceptable anti-immigrant pronouncements and policies at the upcoming Democratic Convention, as exemplified by President Biden’s recent June 4th Executive Order declaring a border shutdown and the violation of international right to seek asylum, and Vice President Harris’ advocacy for the “most significant border security bill in decades” last week. The policies of exclusion, hyperpolicing, and militaristic spectacle championed by Donald Trump, the Republican governors who mimic him, as well as by the current Democratic administration, only worsen the problems of working-class people, both immigrant and US-born, by empowering exploitative employers in the United States and corrupt elites abroad.  NPC Statement here: dsausa.org/statements/sta…
