Similar failure but different causes. The DC-10 and MD-11 have different pylon mount designs. The 1979 accident was caused by an unauthorized maintenance procedure that damaged the pylon to wing mounts. The maintenance techs used forklifts to support the engine during maintenance instead of the proper support jig and it caused damage to the pylon mounts when the forklift dropped a little due to hydraulic bleed off. The 2025 accident was a maintenance interval failure that caused a similar failure. In simplest terms, they didn’t lubricate as often as they should have.

DC-10 American Airlines flight 191's May 1979 accident at Chicago O'Hare and UPS MD-11 flight 2976's crash in Kentucky November 2025 had one major similarity: engine 1 separated during takeoff.

Just seen the Havertz "Red". Not for me. They don't consistently get given anymore. Two years ago yes. But this season the PGMOL have been very consistent on not giving reds for that so not a red for me. Bruno on Szobozlai two weeks ago for example
