@fundhunter_co Yes, most people find it impossible to ignore 1-year "returns", so it's worth understanding the context of short-term performance, rather than simply cheering/crying at the investor's genius/idiocy. Eg Fundsmith "underperformed" because it's underweight tech, and that's okay.

@UKValueInvestor I always look at the long-term performance, which is on that table. However, it can be useful to consider the short-term and see what has driven the result. For the Fundsmith Equity Fund in 2024, one factor appears to have been an underweight position in technology.

Fundsmith Equity Fund - Up 8.9% in 2024 but the MSCI World Index was up 20.8% - 11.9% behind. This is probably the worst relative performance year since its inception in 2010. Quality investing doesn't guarantee outperformance. Any other takeaways? 1/n. fundsmith.co.uk/factsheet/

@mcturra2000 Thanks. The massive out-performance of the US is a relatively recent feature. To a large extent, it's because the US has done a better job of growing its companies, but it also has a lot to do with ever-increasing valuations driven by FOMO and TINA.

@UKValueInvestor Nice work, John. I did see a chart showing the UK and US indices over a long time period. Sometimes the UK advanced faster, sometimes the US. They were about matched around 2014 (something like that).
