But that is still another element of "luck" within the system.

“Postdocs get distinctly less respect than a PI even though they may be no less experienced…Postdocs are still not held in the same regard as a freshly minted PI.” I’m really grateful to the colleagues and collaborators I have that bridge this gap and talk to me as an equal.

What is "balance"? When you have big name PIs attacking those who speak out (e.g. against the lovely @AltAcChats folks) then balance *is* talking about the reality even more.

Some will continue to pretend all is good because the system worked for them & refuse to acknowledge the experience of others. But people are leaving and things need changing. We mostly just want to feel valued, that'd be a good first step.
