The first U-2 to be retired is now in the ‘boneyard’ at Davis-Monthan AFB, AZ. Three more are set to follow over the next few months. But Congress has insisted that the remainder be kept operational for the time being.

@thenewarea51 My dad was the first man to command the U-2 wing and then the SR-71 wing. First pic is he receiving an award from President Kennedy, for the wing’s work during the Cuban Missile Crisis. (Gen. LeMay with back to camera.)

OTD 70 years ago, Anthony LeVier made the first flight of the Lockheed U-2 at Groom Lake on August 1st, 1955.
It’s too bad their ADSB is turned on but now you know why they picked the callsign DRAGON 70 today.
