Vaccines r remarkably effective. No reason to take away the MOST effective tool against spread & keep masking. @UManitoba decides nah fuck science. More thoughtless careless admin from Benarroch. I'm on flu shot 15+ & will collect COVID boosters too to reduce risk to me & others.
University of Manitoba@umanitoba

Starting May 4, UM will no longer require staff, students or visitors coming to our campus to have proof of vaccination. We will continue to make the wearing of masks mandatory. We also continue to improve our ventilation systems to ensure a healthier environment for all.

Weeks not policing. U notice other forces doing their jobs? Can we get a refund for days off? @HStefansonMB & @PC_Manitoba seem worried the couple 100 obnoxious shits downtown r entirety of what's left of voting base. True & hopeful thought that that's all that's left for them
Winnipeg Police@wpgpolice

Earlier, the WPS deployed additional resources to the area of the Legislative Building to keep the peace in response to conflicting protests. We thank all participants for their patience & support as we worked to ensure the protection of everyone involved. #statement" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">winnipeg.ca/police/press/2…

Wow. Admin @umanitoba has NO shame... advertising a pay to play top employer award after recurrent strikes & unfair bargaining judgements against them 🤣. This is a great place in spite of admin & could be so much more if managers had vision & backbone. news.umanitoba.ca/um-named-as-on…

@UMnewprof1 @umanitoba I don't come near this stuff professionally. I don't think of myself as anti-union; I do tend to push back on claims that the profession as a whole is underpaid or that there are easy, trade-off-free ways to increase labour share of institutional income.

From UMFA' website. I take it from this that the only thing the last two weeks of the strike produced was an unspecified type of family leave improvement and @umanitoba agreeing to hire someone to help profs find childcare.

@UMnewprof1 @umanitoba As for what I think of this particular strike, you have probably read my two blog posts on the subject, you can form whatever opinion you like on the basis of those.

@AlexUsherHESA @umanitoba So @AlexUsherHESA, no idea about ur background other than a search on this just now. Would u call yourself anti-union in academia? What r ur thoughts on how this shoulda/coulda turned out? Does this stuff come into play in consulting? super curious about ur perspective now

@AlexUsherHESA @umanitoba me too. Outside of salary arbitration that ignores mandate we got increment & salary maxima⬆️for all. Significant pay scale ⬆ for instructors. Teaching delivery & time protection. We'll still be behind comparable uni salaries but this is progress & proper win for the union

@TRyanGregory Oh interesting! That's my in person bias showing. I think faculty should be free to deliver courses how we see best, so I support remote too. Am only against those with no expertise in subject matter dictating. We need the right to choose delivery without interference.

@UMnewprof1 We have the opposite problem in which faculty who want to continue to develop remote options are being forced back to campus.

Who would you put on a remote teaching and assessment advisory group? OBVIOUSLY, it would be AVP Academic, AVP Grad studies, two associate deans, one department chair, one college academic manager, two undergrads, two grad students. Oh, and two faculty.

Nice from Benarroch "The work of our faculty matters. It improves health outcomes and quality of life... drives the economic, social and cultural success of our province." Actions are required to demonstrate sentiment is held & community is not threatened like this in future.

Hopeful about the tentative deal. But "Classes resume Tuesday" as subject line in today's email to students is misleading... until there is a vote we are on strike. Again @umanitoba is communicating half truths to students. This is not the way to turn things around. #umfa2021

#umfa for the clear big win! But don't think this is the last of gov/admin fuckery. As pay increases & working conditions r that little bit better for ALL I hope those who chose not to strike spare a thought of thanks for those that did & that we see u out next time if necessary

@healthsociology @UMFA_FAUM @umanitoba The default in the past has been we get nothing unless decided by courts. That is abnormal outside of our uni. Often workers get overtime to make up lost productivity in other sectors. This could be a win. I'll wait to hear deets but this isn't a deal breaker for me yet

At any other institution I would have chalked this wording up to a simple mistake. But the trust here @umanitoba has been lost. Again, hopeful for a great deal!
