Last Friday, EOS held its Fall Graduation Ceremony, during which undergraduate and graduate students were recognized for completing their degrees. EOS faculty wore their graduation robes, with colors reflecting their PhD institutions. BIG CONGRATS to all of our grads!

RESEARCH SEMINAR ANNOUNCEMENT! EOS is pleased to host Dr. Jane Willenbring (Stanford Univ), who will speak about "Forging signatures: climate's limited role in shaping mountains" on Friday, November 21 in DeLoach Hall room 114 at 4 PM.

EOS undergrads enrolled in Oceanographic Cruise Techniques (OCN471) students tried on Mustang Immersion Survival Suits during a recent cruise. Suiting up is a key part of safety training at the beginning of any cuiser. OCN 471 is taught by EOS Professor Shannon Klotsko.

MS DEFENSE ANNOUNCEMENT! Cody Allen (MS Geo) will defend his thesis on Tues, Nov 25 at 1 PM in DeLoach Hall room 116. Cody's thesis is titled "Using stratigraphic and sediment analysis to examine the establishment and evolution of Frying Pan Shoals, North Carolina, USA".

BS GLY student Abbey Sims-Clark (R), MS GEO student Emma Fishel (L), & Prof Dave Blake recently conducted fieldwork in the NC Piedmont for Abbey's Honors Thesis titled "Testing the Role of Strike-Slip Vs Normal-Slip Faulting along the Nutbush Creek Fault Zone in Eastern NC".

EOS undergraduate students in Structural Geology (GLY 441) recently used Play-Doh to create various types of thrust-fault systems, including imbricate fans and duplexes. Examples from students are shown in the image. Structural Geology is taught by EOS Professor Peter Haproff
