This weekend, we celebrated the legendary Dr. Hans Paerl’s retirement after 47 years at @UNC_IMS! 🎉 Festivities included a BBQ, Research Symposium and harmonica solos! 🎶It was a fitting tribute to a career that shaped limnology, estuarine science & NC water quality. 💙

Barrier islands don’t just get pushed landward—sometimes, they get erased seaward. If we want to forecast barrier island futures, we may need to treat overwash and outwash as fundamentally different beasts. #FreakyFriday critter just dropped. These sea hares have been cropping up in our tanks at the lab. Their head tentacles look like ears, hence the “hare” 🐰 They’re safe to touch but not 🍽️ and eject ink to confuse predators when camouflage fails #Science #biology #ocean #STEM
