When servers are shut down for PS4/PS5 the response to people crying for their digital games will be "just buy the $1000 PS6" which will be backward compatible.

There was a time in 2013 when Microsoft said that the (at the time) next Xbox would require an internet connection at all times. Back then, people were outraged, and Sony used the opportunity to build consumer trust. They just broke it. I'm not buying Sony products anymore 👍

@CathyC00399245 @GTAVI999 @Arron_TK You know why PS3 servers were not completely shut down? Because the amount of backlash Sony received when they announced the shut down. Sony is now testing waters with this new DRM and most of you are just saying "just connect to the internet".

YOUR games aren’t going anywhere but if you’re game sharing and you don’t turn ya game on for 30 days, you gotta turn it on on the 31st day to play ya borrowed games.

PlayStation support has confirmed that a new digital rights management policy for the console is intentional, not a glitch. Starting with any digital games purchased after the March 2026 system update, your PS5 will require an internet connection at least once every 30 days to validate the license. If the console stays offline longer than that, the games simply will not launch until you reconnect. This change does not affect any titles already in your library. Setting a console as your primary system also will not bypass the monthly check-in.
