2 May 1945: #Berlin surrenders to the Soviets during World War II. German General Helmuth Weidling accepts General Vasily Chuikov's unconditional surrender terms. 2 May 1808: The Dos de Mayo Uprising begins as citizens of Madrid rise up against #French imperial troops occupying the city, marking the beginning of the #Spanish War of Independence.
