The conduct of Nelson Kuma, Richard Hounnou, and Norma Munoz-Bent was not mere negligence, it was criminal behavior. They had a legal and ethical duty to act as a man lay dying and they chose not to. My office will not tolerate this especially in a facility meant to care for the most vulnerable.

Rarkease Bishop had every opportunity to turn his life around — and instead chose, repeatedly and deliberately, to arm himself in defiance of the law and the courts. He fled from officers, fought his arrest, and tried to hide the loaded gun he was carrying even after he was in handcuffs. That is not the behavior of someone who poses a manageable risk — it is the behavior of someone the community needs to be protected from.

Damion Peddie showed a complete disregard for our laws and our borders—deported five times, yet he chose to come back and arm himself with a cache of weapons and narcotics. A previously convicted drug trafficker, he continued to put American communities at risk. People want law & order and we have a President willing to deploy law enforcement resources necessary to deliver it. Unfortunately, local laws are emboldening youth crime by not allowing us to prosecute those under 18 who commit crimes during these teen takeovers. It’s ABSURD!
