This May, during Brain Tumor Awareness Month, we were incredibly honored to be welcomed by the students, families, and faculty of Mayfield Junior School for a special Reach Out Assembly benefiting the USC Brain Tumor Center at the Keck School of Medicine of USC and many other non profit organizations 💙 We are deeply grateful for the generosity, compassion, and advocacy shown by this community in support of causes that are close to the hearts of the 8th grade class. A very special thank you to Ruby, the daughter of a USC BTC patient and Advisory Board member, whose courage and dedication to raising awareness inspired this meaningful effort. Your voice, leadership, and heart made a lasting impact, and we are so thankful for your support of our mission. This past Saturday, the USC Brain Tumor Center was proud to participate in the National Brain Tumor Society 5K, standing alongside patients, survivors, caregivers, families, advocates, clinicians, and researchers in support of the brain tumor community. We were especially honored that Frances Chow, MD, and Gabriel Zada, MD, were selected to deliver the welcome remarks, helping open the event with a message of hope, collaboration, and shared purpose. Our sponsorship of this meaningful event reflects the USC Brain Tumor Center’s continued commitment to advancing brain tumor research, expanding awareness, and supporting patients and families beyond the walls of the hospital. Being present at events like this is an important reminder that progress is made not only through science and clinical care, but also through community, advocacy, and the collective determination to improve outcomes for all those affected by brain tumors. #braincancerawareness #braintumorawarenessmonth #gograyinmay #community #hopeinaction

Have you heard of LITT❓ 🧠 The USC Brain Tumor Center is proud to offer Laser Interstitial Thermal Therapy (LITT), an advanced, minimally invasive, MRI-guided treatment that uses heat to precisely target tumor tissue. Recent Keck Medicine of USC research highlighted the promise of LITT in recurrent high-grade astrocytoma, with about half of treated patients alive at 18 months and more than 20% surviving beyond five years. Researchers also found that LITT may help trigger an immune response against the tumor, underscoring the potential of this innovative approach in brain tumor care. #LITT #BrainTumorCare #BrainTumorResearch #NeuroOncology #Neurosurgery #PrecisionMedicine #CancerResearch #InnovationInMedicine

Preparing for an MRI after a brain tumor diagnosis can bring a mix of emotions — from uncertainty to anxiety to hope. While every appointment is different, taking a few simple steps beforehand can help make the experience feel a little more manageable. Before your MRI, it may help to: • Confirm the time and location of your appointment • Ask your care team any questions you may have in advance • Wear comfortable clothing and follow any instructions about food, drink, or medications • Let your team know if you feel claustrophobic or anxious • Bring support when possible, whether that’s a loved one or a calming routine that helps you feel grounded Most importantly, give yourself grace. MRI appointments can be emotionally difficult, and it is okay to acknowledge that. You are not alone in what you are feeling. #BrainTumorCare #MRI #Scanxiety #BrainTumorSupport #USCBrainTumorCenter #KeckMedicineofUSC #YouAreNotAlone

The Southern California Brain Tumor Conference was a tremendous success, bringing together approximately 200 attendees, along with more than 20 participants for the patient session led by the ABTA. The conference opened with welcoming remarks from the Dean, followed by inspiring remarks from Board of Trustees Chair Amy Ross, who expressed strong support for the USC Brain Tumor Center and its mission. Throughout the day, the importance of collaboration across Southern California institutions was on full display, reflected in the meaningful exchange of ideas, research, and clinical innovation. Among the many highlights were the presentation of the Five-Year Excellence in Patient Care & Leadership Award to Dr. Frances Chow, an incredible keynote address from Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong, and a dynamic poster session that reinforced the bright future of brain cancer research across Southern California institutions. We concluded the conference by recognizing the top three research posters and coming together in celebration of the remarkable progress and momentum of this growing collaborative community. We are deeply grateful to all of our industry sponsors for their generous support in helping make this conference possible, and we look forward to hosting this important gathering again in March 2027. #SouthernCaliforniaBrainTumorConference #USCBrainTumorCenter #BrainTumorResearch #BrainTumorCare  #CancerResearch #CollaborationInMedicine #KeckMedicineOfUSC #AcademicMedicine #BrainCancerResearch #ClinicalInnovation
