U.S. Citizens: Demonstration Alert
The U.S. Embassy in Islamabad and Consulates General in Lahore, Karachi, and Peshawar continue to monitor planned protests across Pakistan. The movements of U.S. personnel are restricted through March 15.
Large crowds and traffic congestion are expected, along with a precautionary security presence, an increased number of checkpoints, and possible disruptions to local mobile and internet networks in the region. Protests may cause traffic delays/detours due to closed or blocked roads in the vicinity of the event. The likelihood, duration and severity of these events is unknown. We advise U.S. citizens to avoid large gatherings and remain aware of their surroundings. Large rallies, processions, and protests can be fluid in nature and even peaceful mass events can turn violent.
We advise U.S. citizens in Pakistan to continue to monitor local news, observe good personal security practices, including being aware of your surroundings, avoiding large crowds, and ensuring your STEP registration is up to date.

President Donald J. Trump said in his State of the Union address: "Our country has never been stronger. In my first 10 months, I ended 8 wars, including […] Pakistan and India – would have been a nuclear war. 35 million people, said the Prime Minister of Pakistan, would have died, if it were not for my involvement."

Consul General Tom Eckert had a fascinating discussion at the renowned Peshawar Museum with Dr. Abdul Samad, Director General of Archeology and Museums, on the role cultural heritage plays in economic development and promoting peace. The museum is a wonderful showcase of the tapestry of many cultures and faiths that made Khyber Pakhtunkhwa what it is today. The U.S. was proud to have successfully concluded an Ambassador's Fund for Cultural Preservation project in partnership with Dr. Samad, the Directorate of Archaeology and Museums, and Indiana University in the United States to provide Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's talented and dedicated staff with the latest conservation techniques and training.

Our sincere thanks to Mr. Zulfiqar Ali Khan, former president of the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce, for hosting Consul General Tom Eckert for a lively discussion of how to strengthen trade and economic ties between the United States and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It was great to hear from leaders of the business community and active members of the chamber, including Fahad Kabeer, Adeel Rauf, Riaz Arshad, and Hassan Zahideen, about ways to unlock the full potential of our commercial relationship for our mutual prosperity.

As the United States marks 250 years of independence, President Donald Trump’s proclamation for Black History Month 2026 reminds us that Black history is our national history. Much like Pakistan’s own journey shaped by sacrifice, faith, and resilience, we honor generations who fought for liberty, equality, and justice. A powerful reminder that nations are built by shared values.
