Rooney has one of the most overrated individual careers for a Striker for all his years in England, he never won a single Golden Boot. And when you dig deeper, it becomes even clearer. Wayne Rooney only won the PFA Player of the Year once in his entire career the 2009/10 season. For someone who played over a decade at the very top with Manchester United, in dominant title-winning teams, that’s not the record of a player who consistently imposed himself as the best in the league. And that tells you a lot when you’re discussing him among the very elite. Because when we talk about the greatest attackers, individual dominance has to come into the conversation not just team success. That’s the key difference. Rooney was a brilliant footballer complete, selfless, tactically intelligent. He sacrificed his game for the team, dropped deep, created, pressed, and did the dirty work. But when we talk about the very top-tier attackers, it’s not just about being good for the team it’s about individual dominance and he doesn’t have that The best strikers of a generation take over seasons. They win Golden Boots, stack up individual awards, and separate themselves clearly from everyone else. Compare that to Harry Kane, Robert Lewandowski, and Luis Suárez players who didn’t just contribute, but dominated. Multiple top-scorer awards, historic goal numbers, seasons where they were undeniably the best. Rooney had moments. Those players had eras. So when people elevate Rooney purely off nostalgia, it needs balance. He’s a legend of the game, no question but individually, he never reached that consistent, season-defining level that separates the great from the undeniable elite.

@AdunmoOlan53776 @McFlybowy Foden is doing it at a time when absolutely no one is challenging him, the difference in the amount of elite level players coming through no compared to when Rooney was is a joke. It fine I guess you’re just a complete idiot and a waste of oxygen

@Emzyl_ Not like an Arsenal fan to call the UCL irrelevant? I’m sure it’ll be very relevant if it’s the only trophy you win this season

Chelsea fans celebrate irrelevant winnings here, it's why they never build anything. This shouldn't be the height Chelsea fans should be talking about, bcos this wasn't a good team but they won COVID UCL against all odds. Chelsea best team in the last 10yrs was their PL title winning teams, that should be standard. That should be the goal for Chelsea, building a team that's capable of hitting 80pts in the PL, something that hasn't happened in almost a decade, but they always flex all these irrelevant success that are always ephemeral
🍂@tahyvr

are we ever going to reach this height again?🤦🏾‍♂️

With UCL qualification, a summer rebuild for Manchester United looks easy. These players should be the minimum arrivals at the club: 1. Tonali — £50m 2. Anderson — £45m 3. Baleba — £30m 4. Bruno Guimarães — £35m 5. Nuno Mendes — £40m 6. Mateus Mané — £20m Total spent: £220m

@Utdtruthful He’s literally said Amorim was crap defensively, conceding a lot of chances. He’s said Carrick has made us more solid at the back and that’s all we needed. But your almighty god Amorim couldn’t see that and we lost games because of it.

🚨🗣️ Andoni Iraola: “What has Carrick done differently from Amorim? Obviously they are doing very well, NOT just the result that this is evident and something very objective. “It’s just that they are for me being SOLID because they still have the same threat offensively, but they were the same with Ruben, scoring a LOT of goals, having a lot of chances. “But probably defensively, no. They look MORE solid (now). They haven't conceded a lot of goals. “(Before), If you see the chances they concede in some games is ridiculous. “They don't concede basically chances a lot of times and probably the improvement in terms of points”. #MUFC

@UTD_CT @McFlybowy Rooney was never an elite striker, never a true Ballon d’Or contender, never top scorer or considered best in the world more than once among eleven. Inconsistency meant even today’s Salah dust him by miles. Didn't Salah played with Mane too?

@Utdbeni In 07/08 when we won the champions league, the first leg of the semi final vs Barca, United had 27% possession. In the home leg we had 37%. Dominating possession isn’t everything. It’s understanding your squad and the games ahead of you and how to win. Winning is what matters.

All I know is every club that wants to win the champions league or premier league must dominate possession and so far carrick isn’t doing any of it. Enrique is our only hope of being a great club again

@Utdbeni Are you thick? No manager we get in is getting their own way. INEOS set the standard with Amorim, who got sacked for challenging the hierarchy for signings and it hurt their ego. INEOS will only get a manager in that they can control and sign the players they want

Our midfield signing will depend solely on the manager we bring in the summer, if it’s Carrick then just lower your expectations nothing better will happen. He will be a glazer and ineos puppett and they will sign him anyone they want. No improvement will happen Enrique and Nagelsmann are the only way we can dream of winning the premier league again with proper squad building.

@GeordieKermit9 @ChampionsLeague Newcastle are going to be in the same cycle for a good few years if they don’t sort out their manager and squad. No UCL so focus on league and domestic cups. Finish top 4, maybe a trophy. Next season be overwhelmed by UCL, poor in league and no UCL after. Rinse and repeat

This position will decide whether England go all the way or not. The midfield duo is locked down Rice and Elliot Anderson and they will completely dominate, but what England now need is a creative #10 to balance it. I’ll break each option down: Bellingham: He’s the most complete attacking midfielder this season….goals, assists, involvement, and progressive play are all top tier. He’s a box-to-box player, but he doesn’t have the positioning of a classic #10 and isn’t a pure pocket creator. Cole Palmer: Creates danger through shots and goals more than passes. He’s basically an attacking midfielder with striker instincts, but he’s more a scorer than a “key passer” and may struggle to unlock highly organized defenses. He also contributes little defensively, with limited pressing and tracking. Foden: Operates between the lines, can drift wide or cut inside, and thrives in fast, fluid attacks. He’s still one of the most creative attacking midfielders, but he tends to drift wide or deep, losing influence centrally, as we saw at the Euros. His defensive contribution is /also minimal. Eze: Very effective when hot, but he’s not a classic #10. He prefers to operate in pockets from the left rather than centrally. He can be brilliant one game and quiet the next, and his tracking back and pressing are very limited. Rogers: Energetic, with goals and assists, but still developing. He lacks top-level consistency and is not yet a reliable creative fulcrum for a team that needs a structured #10. England’s #10 options this season all share the same problem: they score more than they create. Palmer, Bellingham, Rogers, and Eze all threaten goals but don’t unlock defenses. England currently has no true #10 who combines elite scoring, consistent creativity, and central positional intelligence. The only player who could have played as the main #10 is Maddison, and unfortunately, he won’t be available.

INEOS bowed to emotional fan pressure with Ten Hag. They made the wrong decision then even if only a few of us had the intelligence to see it. The very last people you allow to influence your decision should be a fanbase proven to get it wrong and allow emotion to cloud judgement

🚨🗣️ @ianirving_: "Everything that I have heard. Anything that anyone has said to me is that they’re [Manchester United] in no rush, they’ll take their time and make their decision when they know for certain what they want to do. We were told that the hierarchy have included Michael Carrick in consideration and seeing what else is out there. The problem they’ve got is if Carrick continues to do well, gets United back in Champions League and finishes third even, there’ll be a clamour from fans for him to get the job, it’ll make their job more complicated."
