We recently celebrated an outstanding group of residents as they completed an important milestone in their surgical training. Their dedication to patient care, commitment to education, and leadership have made a lasting impact on our department and the communities they serve.

Research reveals how dietary omega-6 lipids may contribute to abnormal bone formation after injury in obese patients. Researchers identified a pathway linking diet, inflammation & tissue repair, with potential strategies for reducing unwanted bone growth. jci.org/articles/view/…

The Nomellini Lab investigates how trauma, sepsis & burns disrupt the immune system during/after ICU stays. By understanding why recovery differs between patients, the team is working to develop personalized therapies that restore immune function & improve outcomes for patients.

Alex Kim, M.D., Ph.D., & his team have performed the state's first pressurized intraperitoneal aerosol chemotherapy (PIPAC) procedure, delivering aerosolized chemotherapy into the abdominal cavity during a minimally invasive laparoscopy. Questions? Contact the #canceranswerline

Dr. Kim & our multidisciplinary team traveled to UNC Health to learn firsthand about PIPAC, an innovative, minimally invasive way to deliver chemotherapy directly to tumors in the abdomen. PIPAC is now available at #UTSW, making us the 1st in Texas to offer this therapy!
