On This Date in UVA Sports History... May 15, 2024: @UVAMensGolf advanced to NCAA championship by finishing second in Baton Rouge Regional at 13-under par. Bryan Lee led Virginia at 4-under, while Ben James finished at 3-under and George Duangmanee at 1-under. 🔷🏌️‍♂️🔶

On This Date in UVA Sports History... May 14, 1955: @UVALacrosse was shut out, 18-0, by Maryland. This game is the last time Virginia has been shut out in Lacrosse, a stretch of over seventy years. 🔶🥍🔷

On This Date in UVA Sports History... May 10, 1952: @VirginiaMensLAX wins their first-ever national championship when they win their 7th straight game to end the season, a 16-6 victory over Washington College. 🔷🏆🔶

Happy birthday to Barry Parkhill! 🎂 Parkhill, an All-American for @UVAMensHoops in both 1972 and 1973, led the 1971-72 team to a 21-7 record and its first ever Top-10 ranking. Parkhill still holds the record for most points scored in a game by a UVA player with 51 against Baldwin-Wallace College on December 11, 1971. 🔶🏀🔷

Happy birthday to @RasIDowling! 🎂 Dowling was an anchor of the defense of the 2008 and 2009 @UVAFootball teams under Al Groh. Dowling intercepted 8 passes over his career and accounted for 160 tackles. He is currently the Defensive Backs coach for William & Mary. 🔷🏈🔶

Happy Birthday Melanie (Valerio) Thomas! 🎂 Melanie was the first @UVASwimDive swimmer to win Gold in an Olympics, doing so in the 4X100 Free Relay in the 1996 Atlanta games. 🔶🏊‍♀️🔷

Happy Birthday @DawnStaley! 🎂 The best player ever to wear a @UVAWomensHoops uniform, Staley was a two-time Naismith Winner and led the Cavaliers to three Final Fours. Playing for Virginia from 1988 to 1992, Staley set the NCAA record for steals and the UVA record for points. Staley’s 235 assists in the 1991 season is still the all-time UVA record. Her #24 was retired in 1993, the season after she graduated. #GOAT 🔷🏀🔶

Happy birthday to Bruce McGonnigal! 🎂 @bmcgonnigal was the leading tight end on the late-80s/1990 powerhouse @UVAFootball teams, leading the team in receiving yards in 1988 and number of receptions in 1989. He finished his career averaging 15.1 yards per reception, setting a then-school record of 1556 yards as a tight end. 🔶🏈🔷

On This Date in UVA Sports History... April 30, 1983: Paul French scores seven goals in a @UVAMensLAX game for the third time in his career, as UVA defeats UNC 16-10. French is the only UVA player to score seven goals three times. 🔶🥍🔷

On This Date in UVA Sports History... April 28, 2025: @UVAMensGolf wins their first-ever ACC Championship with a 3-2 victory in match play versus UNC. Paul Chang and Deven Patel each won their rounds with Bryan Lee winning a narrow victory in the final round of the day on the 18thhole to clinch the Cavalier victory. 🔷⛳️🔶

On This Date in UVA Sports History... April 27, 2014: @UVAWomensTennis wins its first-ever ACC championship in Women's Tennis when they defeat Duke 4-2. Virginia won two-out-of-three doubles matches and four-of-six singles matches, propelled by Danielle Collins, Maci Epstein, and Stephanie Nauta. 🔶🎾🔷

On This Date in UVA Sports History... April 23, 2006: In the final of the ACC Championship, @UVAMensTennis loses to Duke. This match was the last loss that UVA would have against an ACC opponent in a dual match until February 15, 2016, a streak of 140 consecutive wins over nearly ten years. That is the longest winning streak for any school in any sport in ACC history. 🔷🎾🔶

On This Date in UVA Sports History... April 23, 1994: @UVASoftball wins their first (and only) ACC Tournament in Tallahassee with a 3-0 victory over FSU, avenging a loss to the Seminoles in the previous year’s final. The Hoos were led by Michelle Collins, who was the winning pitcher for 25 of the team’s 33 wins. 🔶🥎🔷

Happy Birthday Dom Starsia! 🎂 @DomStarsiaPLL coached @UVAMensLAX for fourteen seasons, from 1993 to 2016, leading the Cavaliers to four national championships. He was named to the Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2008. 🔷🥍🔶

Happy birthday to @WaliRainer ! 🎂 Rainer was one of the anchors of the @UVAFootball defensive teams of the late 90s, amassing 347 sacks between 1995-1998. He was drafted in the fourth round by the Cleveland Browns and played eight years in the NFL. 🔶🏈🔷

On This Date in UVA Sports History... April 17, 2016: Ten years ago today, @UVAWomensGolf wins their second consecutive ACC Championship, with Lauren Coughlin winning the ACC individual championship. Lauren is currently a pro golfer on the LPGA tour and her husband John Pond, who played on the 2014 and 2015 @UVAFootball teams, is her caddy. 🔷🏌️‍♀️🔶 #GoHoos

Happy birthday to Marcus Wilson! 🎂 Wilson led @UVAFootball in rushing for three straight years: 1987, 1988, and 1989. In 1989 he rushed for 1098 yards, including a TD in the Citrus Bowl versus Illinois. He is still ranked 12th all-time in rushing yards at UVA with 2,219 yards. 🔶🏈🔷

On This Date in UVA Sports History... April 12, 1989: Lisa Palmer throws the first perfect game in @UVASoftball history in a game versus Davis & Elkins College. 🔷🥎🔶

Fun Fact: Two @UVAWomensHoops players have gone on to win WNBA Championships: DeMya Walker with the Sacramento Monarchs in 2005 and Monica Wright with the Minnesota Lynx in 2011 and 2013. Both players wore number 22 while at Virginia and in the pros. 🔶🏀🔷
