Graphene is electrical conductor. But when its two layers are stacked with a twist, the system can suddenly become insulating. Researchers from Prof. Neupert group @UZHmat , Oxford and Berkeley proposed an explanation to this issue! Read more in @PhysRevX: journals.aps.org/prx/abstract/1…

Glenn Wagner from @UZHMat @UZHPhysics and collaborators predicted a phase of twisted bilayer graphene called Kekulé spiral journals.aps.org/prl/abstract/1…. This has now been seen experimentally in @LabYazdani @PrincetonPhys arxiv.org/abs/2303.00024. Congrats to this very nice success!

We have shown that fully localized, three-dimensional, time-reversal-symmetry-broken insulators do not belong to a single phase of matter, but can realize topologically distinct phases, the topological localized insulators! You can find out more here: journals.aps.org/prl/abstract/1…
