Well, it’s good to differ. My argument remains that it does and I have authorities to back up my position. I said that “I would argue” that the financial inducements, including the #10m, raises a red flag and “constitute undue influence over the woman.” The Matrimonial Causes Act is clear on the subject. More so, that paragraph should not be read in isolation. The fact that people have been doing it in the past wouldn’t automatically make it lawful. That marriage is voidable, at the least.

@UcheMerife @Morris_Monye I was referring to your earlier point that the 10m gift constituted under influence over the woman. I don't think it holds. Money and gifts have always been used to entice women to marry and it's not undue influence. Many older men have married younger ladies for smaller amounts

You’re missing a key distinction, bro. Yes, “cash and gifts” will not automatically constitute undue influence. In Regina’s case, you’re probably referring to her marriage to a much older & wealthy Ned, with all the lavish gifts and financial arrangements that went on. But those are deeply embedded in our traditional marriage culture. Our courts would be unwise to void marriages simply because one party is richer or more generous. Now, look at this boy’s case. The issue is not the cash & gifts in isolation. I was referring to the combination of factors, like: E.g: Regina Daniels has full mental capacity. She could evaluate the offer, weigh the pros & cons, consult people she trusts and say yes or no freely. Could your “autistic boy” do any of that? He most probably could not process what is being offered, what he is agreeing to or what the consequences are. Marriage is no joke, even for fully mentally capable men. Lol. So, the cash & gifts become legally problematic here not on their own, but because they’re being used to facilitate a marriage involving someone who cannot consent at all. You get?
