grime and hip hop both can trace their lineage to Jamaican immigrants (FBA weirdos wont agree but it's true) if anything Grime and Hip Hop are more like cousins or distant siblings than one being a subgenre of the other not to mention instrumentally and culturally it morphed into what it is from late 90's/early 2000's UK Garage i saw this shift happen in real time when i was really young, my twin cousins were grime DJ's when the switch was happening
