The International Football Association Board (IFAB) has unanimously approved red card as a punishment for players covering their mouths to conceal discriminatory behaviour. At a Special Meeting held in Vancouver, Canada on Tuesday, @TheIFAB also gave a go ahead to match officials to issue Red cards for players leaving the field of play or officials inciting them to do so in protest at a referee’s decision. The two measures come into effect at the FIFA World Cup 2026. #UgandaPostUpdates #TheIFAB 📷 Courtesy

Mr. Michael Atingi-Ego, the Governor @BOU_Official has told the parliamentary Joint Committee on Defence and Internal Affairs, together with Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, that "a country without reserves is not sovereign. The potential of this Bill [ Protection of Sovereignty Bill 2026] to destabilize Uganda’s balance of payments is our primary concern as a central bank. For example, last financial year the overall balance of payment surplus was USD 1.5 billion. That’s how we were able to increase our reserve coverage by USD 1.5 billion. Today as we speak our reserves are close to USD 6 billion. Why? Because these inflows have been coming in. The moment you tamper with these inflows here, we risk running down our reserves, and that is economic disaster for a country.” #UgandaPostUpdates #SovereigntyBill2026

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced it is quitting the Opec and Opec+ groups of major oil producing nations after nearly 60 years. The UAE said the decision reflected its "long-term strategic and economic vision and evolving energy profile". The decision is seen as a blow to the cartel with one analyst describing the exit as "the beginning of the end of Opec". The Gulf state's energy minister said being a country with no obligation under the groups would provide more flexibility. The UAE joined Opec in 1967 and its departure will leave the oil cartel with 11 members. #UgandaPostUpdates #OPEC #UAE

Ugandans in the diaspora appeared via Zoom before the Joint Committee on Defence and Internal Affairs and Legal and Parliamentary Affairs to discuss the Protection of Sovereignty Bill, 2026. They warned that provisions classifying citizens abroad as foreigners and restricting remittances risk undermining trust, investment, and family support systems, despite the diaspora’s significant economic contribution. U.S based Timothy Kangajwe said Ugandans abroad are not foreigners. “When a bill defines us as such, it’s not a drafting error, it’s a statement. We send US$2.5 billion home for families, not politics. Don’t put government between our children and us," he said. Brian Mushana Kwesiga, former President of the Uganda North America Association (UNAA), said that protecting sovereignty is right, but citizens should not be confused with foreign agents. “It is difficult to ask Ugandans abroad to invest while defining them as foreigners. Build trust, don’t break it," he said. Gloria Nalule, the Executive Director of Uganda Global Forum said 77% of diaspora respondents want the bill amended. “Classifying Ugandans abroad as foreigners risks a two-tier citizenship,” she said. The joint committee continues to interface with different stakeholders regarding the bill. #11thParliamentEnds
