The project, which is made possible through the generous funding of the Austrian Ministry for Agriculture and Forestry, Climate and Environmental Protection, Regions and Water Management (BMLUK), has placed gender equality and community participation at the centre of change.

Through the Sustainable and Climate-Resilient Communities through Women & Youth Empowerment (SuRE) Project, families in Kamwenge & Kabarole are adopting sustainable farming practices, savings groups are restoring hope, and communities are growing stronger and more resilient.

Some grim statistics recorded by the Sauti 116 child helpline in 2023: 1,987 cases of child neglect, 832 cases of physical abuse, 737 cases of sexual abuse out of an average of 1,500 calls to the helpline every day.

Following a vibrant community clean-up earlier today, we met with Gulu RCC, Mr. Ambrose Onoria to discuss climate action. His call was clear: 'Active citizens build sustainable cities.' We enjoyed a great interaction on community-led initiatives and environmental stewardship.
