It's a victory both on and off the pitch for York City. After 10 years out of the Football League, the club returned in style — 108 points, and a dramatic 103rd-minute winner at Rochdale to seal it. Plans for an open top bus parade to celebrate were initially rejected by the council and police — until thousands of fans made their voices heard on a Change.org petition…. "In a matter of days, they proved what we already knew: this city is proud of its football club, and it wasn't going to let this moment pass without a proper send-off," said Seth Sowerby, Chair of the York City Supporters' Trust and the man behind the petition. The parade takes place on Thursday 7th May. "Bring the kids. Bring your grandparents. Bring your voice. This is our day," said Seth.

“We need the IRGC proscribed today. We needed it years ago. The time for theatrical diplomacy is over." - petition organiser Elika Ashoori This week, the UK Government committed to introducing legislation to proscribe the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organisation. The announcement is expected in the King's Speech on 13 May. After that, a bill must clear multiple stages in both Houses of Parliament before it becomes law, which could take months. Elika Ashoori, whose father Anoosheh was held in Evin Prison for four and a half years before his release in 2022, started a petition on Change.org calling for urgent proscription before this week's announcement. It now has over 36,000 signatures. "If the Prime Minister believes the IRGC is a terrorist threat to British soil, why are we waiting months for the King's Speech?" she says. "Every day of delay is a day we allow their industrial-scale killing machine to function with impunity." Petition link 👉 c.org/RMyxDxSP

"I stood there holding it, and I felt sick." Kayleigh, a mum from Manchester, found a SHEIN swimsuit — labelled age 8 — with padded, cupped breast cups in the lining. She's calling on SHEIN to remove padded and structured cups from all children's clothing. Nearly 25,000 people have already signed her Change.org petition. Petition link 👉 c.org/KNTyG8jJ

EU pet passports are no longer valid for UK residents travelling to Europe 🐾 On 22nd April, a new EU Animal Health Law came into force. With just five days' notice from the UK government, thousands of pet owners are now facing vet bills of up to £350 per pet, per trip. Many people have been left confused, with differing policies for transport companies — P&O are turning pets away without the new paperwork, while Brittany Ferries are still accepting old passports for now. Kristen Bond quickly launched a petition to 'Reverse new guidance on pet travel to the EU' — it already has over 1,200 signatures. "Since the UK's exit from the EU, various changes have impacted citizens and businesses, and now, even our pets are feeling the consequences," she says. She believes reconsideration is essential not just for pet owners, but due to potential animal welfare implications. Petition link 👉 c.org/FLXvYQ6M

Susan Whittles, 70, was killed by a driver who had already failed his UK driving test twice. Under current rules, that driver was still legally allowed on the road. UK residents who fail their driving test must display L-plates, drive only when supervised by a qualified driver, and cannot drive unaccompanied until they pass. That same standard does not apply to drivers from non-designated countries, who can revert to driving unsupervised on their foreign licence for up to 12 months — even after failing multiple UK tests. Reflecting on his loss, Susan's husband Bill said: "I still have flashbacks to the horror Sue must have felt as he hit us." The petition is calling for anyone who fails a UK driving test to be subject to immediate and consistent restrictions — including clear limits on unsupervised driving and stronger oversight for repeat failures. Over 40,000 people have signed. Petition link 👉 c.org/fPZtSFB7

Classified as a probable carcinogen by the WHO. Banned for 13 years. Cornwall Council just tried to bring it back. When glyphosate is sprayed on roadsides and pavements, it doesn't stay there — it runs into drains, rivers and the sea. Cornwall has over 300 miles of coastline and some of the most popular wild swimming spots in the country. What goes on the pavement doesn't stay on the pavement. Petition starter Tom Scott says local councils have been left with an impossible choice: "They must either agree to routine use of glyphosate on their roads and footways or take on full responsibility for maintenance themselves. This puts councils who want to keep glyphosate away from their communities between a rock and a hard place." 9,495 people have already signed his petition. On Tuesday, councillors voted 61 to 7 to push back. Cabinet portfolio holder Loic Rich said the message was "really clear" — but the vote was advisory meaning cabinet is not legally obliged to act. The spraying is still scheduled for May. Petition link 👉 c.org/wdDXGjym

Three calls to his GP. No face-to-face appointment. Joshua Haines was dead within days. A coroner ruled there were "missed opportunities" to get him urgent medical help. He was 30 years old. Six months after Joshua died, Jess's Rule came into effect — an NHS policy won by Andrea Brady, who lost her daughter Jessica at 27 after 20 GP visits went nowhere. 465,473 people signed her Change.org petition to make it happen. The rule is now NHS policy. But too many people don't know it exists. If you contact your GP three times with the same or worsening symptoms, they must: Reflect — review what's been said, consider what's been missed, and offer a face-to-face appointment if previous consultations were remote. Review — look again at any red flags regardless of your age or background, and seek a second opinion if needed. Rethink — refer you for further tests or specialist input if something still doesn't add up. Joshua died six months before this rule existed. Know your rights. Petition link 👉 c.org/QVpfrcJL

ScotRail claims to protect wildlife. A Freedom of Information report reveals it scheduled 196 pigeon shooting visits over a single year. The figures were obtained by Manchester Pigeon Rehab. Petition starter Steph Muir notes that ScotRail still holds an active RSPB partnership. Steph says: "Shooting pigeons is barbaric and unreliable. Birds often suffer devastating injuries which lead to lifelong disabilities or slow painful deaths." Over 4,000 people have backed her call for ScotRail to end lethal control and switch to humane alternatives. Petition link 👉 c.org/ByFMrqZx

One punch killed Cemal. His Royal Marine killer was only sentenced to 3.5 years. Manchester-born Cemal John Yılmaz — known by family and friends as a "gentle giant" — was on a night out when 22-year old Royal Marine, Joseph Jones attacked him. The perpetrator then left without calling for help. The punch was delivered after Cemal reportedly asked the commando if he was from Birmingham when he was in fact from Wolverhampton. The court reduced the sentence because the killer was under 25, on the grounds his brain development was not complete. In Cemal’s mother's own words: "It is unacceptable that a professional soldier — who has undergone the most intense physical and mental training, and is authorised to use weapons and lethal force — is treated as a child." She is appealing the "unduly lenient" sentence, which would see the perpetrator released in just 28 months. Over 14,000 people have already signed her petition. Petition link 👉 c.org/tDxdJcH6

Warning: contains themes some viewers may find distressing. Romania's Eurovision entry 'Choke Me' is facing calls for it to be pulled. The song, by Alexandra Căpitănescu, is the subject of a petition on Change.org calling on the EBU and the BBC to refuse to broadcast it unless references to choking are removed. Strangulation is not a fringe issue. One woman dies from it every 10 days in the UK. Non-fatal strangulation is one of the strongest predictors of future homicide — and has been a standalone criminal offence in England and Wales since 2022. The UK recently banned choking depictions in adult material because of the harm normalisation causes. Critics argue that broadcasting the song on one of Europe's biggest stages sends the opposite message. Eurovision is watched by millions — including children. Our Line HQ, the group behind the petition, says: "Eurovision should not be a platform for content that makes violence against women seem acceptable." Petition link 👉 c.org/k24TsFkV

Sacked in the middle of the Mandelson scandal, Sir Olly Robbins is at the centre of a growing backlash. Now, a petition is calling on Keir Starmer to reinstate him, arguing that after 25 years of public service, he deserves fairness, not political blame. Petition starter Peter Stanley says: "The dismissal of Sir Oliver Robbins lacks transparency and proper justification, raising serious concerns about the process and motives behind this decision. We deserve a government that recognises and values the dedication and hard work of its civil servants without party political interference." Petition link ➡️ c.org/TZ9KSMfG

Over 49,000 people are demanding a vote of no confidence in Keir Starmer. The prime minister faces PMQs today amid intense scrutiny over the vetting of Peter Mandelson before he was named US Ambassador. Tens of thousands have signed a petition calling for MPs to act. 💬 Petition starter Robert Barnes says: "The integrity of our political system relies on the trust of its citizens, and a leader who withholds crucial information jeopardises this trust. Now is not the time for silence or complacency. We must demand accountability and transparency from those in positions of influence." 🔗Petition link: c.org/J5wvgB2p

Arson attacks targeting communities in London are being investigated for links to Iranian proxies. As this story develops, a UK-based campaign is calling for urgent action. Elika Ashoori, whose father was imprisoned in Iran for nearly five years and released alongside Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, has launched a fast-growing petition on Change.org urging the UK Government to proscribe the IRGC as a terrorist organisation. With other countries already taking action to do so, the UK is now under pressure to respond as concerns grow about Islamic Republic–backed networks operating on British soil. 🗣️ Elika says: “For years, people in the UK thought this threat was happening somewhere else. Now it’s here. The Government has been warned — but still hasn’t acted.” 👉 Petition link: c.org/SSKnsX6g #BanIRGC #LondonNews #UKSecurity #BreakingNews

Network Rail's netting is trapping pigeons alive under a Brighton bridge — and this isn't the first time. Witnesses have reported seeing birds flapping helplessly inside the netting beneath New England Road bridge, with no way out. Some have been found dead. Network Rail temporarily closed the road to remove the birds — then repaired the same netting. “While the intention might have been to manage bird habitats, the result has been outright cruelty and environmental harm” says petition starter, Mark Richard. He is calling on Network Rail to remove the netting at New England Road, Brighton entirely and replace it with humane alternatives. Petition link 👉c.org/GgPtmhwS

Bob Mortimer has been making Britain laugh for nearly 40 years, and now a petition is calling for him to be awarded a knighthood. From Reeves and Mortimer to Shooting Stars, Would I Lie to You? and Last One Laughing, comedian Mortimer has spent decades pushing the boundaries of British comedy, with viral clips leading to him being described as a ‘national treasure’... but the Honours Committee is yet to agree. A petition is calling on that to change. Fellow comedian Mark Fuller started the petition, arguing his contribution to comedy and arts deserves the highest recognition available. "His unique comedic style, charismatic presence, and unwavering dedication to the arts have left a lasting impact on British culture," Fuller says. Petition link 👉 c.org/vpfGQpRn

Calls grow for PM Keir Starmer to resign over U.S. ambassador appointment. The UK's ambassador to the United States, Lord Peter Mandelson, was removed from his post seven months into the role following revelations about his ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. It has now emerged that Mandelson had allegedly failed his security vetting before taking up the Washington posting — and that the Foreign Office overruled that decision without informing the Prime Minister or any other minister. Opposition leaders across all parties are calling for Starmer to step down. "All roads lead to resignation," said Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch. The SNP accused the PM of being "either incompetent, gullible or a liar." A petition calling for a vote of no confidence has been building for months — over Starmer's awareness of Mandelson's links with Epstein. It's now passed 20,000 signatures.
