82 years ago, the Soviet regime began the forced deportation of the Crimean Tatar people from their homeland. Hundreds of thousands were expelled from Crimea in cattle wagons, deprived of food, water, and basic human dignity. Thousands died during the journey and in exile. This was an act of genocide against the indigenous people of Crimea. Today, Russia is continuing this pattern of repression in temporarily occupied Crimea: persecution, politically motivated imprisonments, pressure on independent communities, and attempts to erase Crimean Tatar identity. Despite decades of terror, the Crimean Tatar people preserved their language, culture, memory, and struggle for freedom. Ukraine honours the victims of the genocide and stands with the Crimean Tatars in the fight for a free Crimea. Crimea is Ukraine. Qırım – Ukrainadır. Qırım serbest olacaq!
