Excellent scoop by @NetraNews, finding a link between the new Central Bank Governor and the S Alam group, accused of extracting hundreds of millions of dollars in loans from Bangladesh banks under false pretences.
There has been much speculation whether the new governor was "S Alam's man" - and I am not saying that he is - but this is certainly pointing to a significant link.
Mostaqur Rahman's appointment has been embarrassing to the BNP on so many levels, as widely reported. Is this the final nail?

One of the lies that Awami League apologists keep repeating is the claim that 69% of Bangladeshis want the party to participate in the election. This is not what the data says, even if you accept the poll results.
Based on the failure of the AL to reform, apologize, or hold accountable those who committed crimes, a clear majority of those polled do not support the party’s participation. This is consistent with the finding of other polls.
If the AL had taken steps to reform, repent, and replace leaders after August 5 2024 there would have been a path back. Absent this, only AL hardcore supporters and apologists want them in the election.

I remember being in Zimbabwe in 1993 when Chris Hani was assassinated in an obvious attempt to derail the post-apartheid transition in South Africa. Fortunately, led by Nelson Mandela, the people of South Africa came together and frustrated the assassin’s plans. In the end it galvanized the peace process. This is a similar moment for Bangladesh.

Since until recently few have given @BJI_Official any realistic chance of winning the February elections and forming Bangladesh's next government, the party has largely avoided scrutiny of its detailed policy proposals and likely Cabinet selections.
With polls now showing that a Jamaat victory is not out of the realm of possibility, there should be an equal focus on what a Jamaat government would look like. This would also help voters have a clearer picture of the alternatives that they have to choose between at election time.

This panel discussion on Bangladesh's economy was very enlightening, particularly the insightful commentary from @mushtaqkhan100. His critique of @albd1971 economic policy was the best rebuttal I have heard to the claims of Hasina's supporters.
