Good afternoon Jeff, Great that you have an interest in my paintings. Sorry for the delay in my response. Which artwork(s) are you interested in? My website (UlliKampelmann.com) is still being "renovated" and not all of my works are yet online. Today, we just got the photos back from the photographer of all of my paintings and they will be uploaded soon. In the meantime, we can work with you to see all there is. And we ship paintings worldwide. Let us know how we can help.

Threshold of a Garden Forest My Dad had been imprisoned for attempting to escape from East Germany. While in prison, he befriended a professional landscape architect. Not long after he was released, he bought a very large plot of land which was very overgrown. My Dad got his landscape friend to come design it all into a park-like garden. When it was done, we had a beautiful, wonderful place to go where there were still so many trees and bushes, but now all in a beautiful design. Tons of flowers, berry bushes, fruit trees, vegetables and garden paths. I loved it there. A refuge from my worries and a space where I felt free. #contemporaryart #abstractexpressionist #eastgermany #abstractart Visit: UlliKampelmann.com

In 1974, I was a teacher in communist East Germany. One day, during an art lesson, I asked my students to paint a scene from a fairy tale, but on A3 paper instead of the required A4 format dictated by the government curriculum. (A4 is about letter size, A3 is twice as big) It may sound like a small change. But in a system where every detail was controlled, even the size of a sheet of paper mattered. I chose that larger paper size for one simple reason: I wanted to give my students more space, more freedom, to express their imagination. And the results were beautiful. Their creativity flourished. But the reaction from the school authorities was very different. Soon after, I was publicly reprimanded by the school director in front of all my colleagues. My “offense” was deviating from the prescribed curriculum. No deviation was tolerated, not even in art. That moment revealed something deeper: it was never just about paper size. It was about control, over ideas, over expression, over young minds. A year later, I was given a rare opportunity, and I took it. I escaped from East Germany hidden in the trunk of a small car. I couldn't take anything with me except my passport and a photograph of my family. That was it. Even today, I remember those children, their paintings, and the quiet courage it sometimes takes to do what is right, even in the smallest ways. #eastgermany #communism #socialism #education #berlinwall

I was commissioned by the Duke of Württemberg, in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, to make an art installation as skylight for his newly renovated golf clubhouse. 130 square meters of space transforming art, changing the interior atmosphere with varied color throughout the day. This narration is from the leader of the Artists Association Baden-Württemberg during the opening ceremony of my exhibition at the Stuttgart International Airport. #contemporaryart #architecturalglass #artinstallations

Brighter Future - I vividly remember the moment I had the chance to see the Brandenburg Gate from the West Berlin side after my escape. Before that, I had only ever seen the gate from the East German side. Early in the morning, one can watch the rising sun behind the gate. Beautiful.
