As for colors I ironically recommend using his forces renders as direct reference. (Not in-game.) Attempt aiming for shiny carpaint.

as much as i like the idea of a stylized Metal Sonic for the movie, there would 100% be an uproar similar to (but definitely not on the same level as) the first movie Sonic design
all of the other movie characters are colored similarly to the games anyway why should Metal change
