October has started with beautiful weather for harvesting the seed pods we have been working so hard to grow since spring. Leo, our performance trials manager, is running the combine and making sure that this step of harvesting is done accurately so all that work isn't wasted.

📢Applications are now open for GDM Seeds Travel Grants to the 2024 Crop Science Society of America annual meeting, which will be held in San Antonio on November 10-13. 🌱Awardees will be chosen by representatives from UMN and GDM Seeds.

Last week SRC members toured 3 sites in MN related to soy production and utilization. Many thanks to Keith and Brian Schrader (fam. farm), Jordan Atchison of Puris, and Blake Murnan of CHS! Networking and connections to the bigger picture of MN ag are the goals of these tours!

UMN Soybean Research isn't just 'at the U.' Our researchers have collaborations and sites across a large swath of the state which allows them to target their learning in a variety of growing conditions that farmers face here in MN to return those benefits right back to farmers.

Lab outing to Como Park to see Horace the Corpse Flower last week. We had a picnic in the park before waiting in line to see the bloom up close. Great way to celebrate Devon's last day and exciting next steps!

Planting out started in earnest yesterday with grad student soybean projects getting started in the morning and by the afternoon we were planting in the crossing blocks. Today we did some hand planting during some exceptionally beautiful weather.
