I've seen how antisemitism is woven onto the fabric of schools and mosques in Muslim countries. And I never hear contrition.

Jews must not feel scared or terrified in the United Kingdom at any cost, and neither should Muslims or any other section of society. It is only fair that the state should have no favourites in an egalitarian society. However, it is absolutely disgusting and shameful for a society to protect one minority and not another, as is being portrayed. Kemi Badenoch needs to understand that it was Christian majority Europe, the white Caucasian majority, that fuelled antisemitism in the 1930s, which eventually led to the murder of over 6 million innocent Jews by Nazi Germany, and not Muslims. As much as propaganda portrays otherwise, the fact is that this country is becoming neither safe for Jews nor for Muslims. A Sikh woman was raped in her home by a white Caucasian Christian man, John Ashby, after being misidentified as a Muslim woman. How many tears were shed for her? How many vigils were organised by those who claim to stand for human rights, especially among those with a right wing mindset? Kemi is a Black woman from Nigeria, and she should be proud of her heritage and mindful of the history of Black Africans, who were enslaved and targeted for centuries. Jumping on a bandwagon of division is not going to win any votes. People have seen the consequences over the past 14 years, and many notable Conservative leaders have left the party and joined others. The fact is that if there is selective protection of minorities while ignoring the issue of Islamophobia, it will only intensify sectarian hatred and discrimination, which is not good for anyone or for UK society. No Jew, Muslim, Hindu, or Sikh should feel scared of racism in the United Kingdom. The overwhelming majority of people reject any form of discrimination or terrorism against anyone. Everyone must feel respected, valued, and protected in the United Kingdom, just like any other minority. You may not agree with me, but you will always know where you stand with me. Today in Billericay, a heckler tried to shout me down as I spoke about the normalisation of hatred towards Jews. I did not back down, because it needs to be said. British Jews are being targeted and too many people are pretending this is the same experience of other minorities. This lady implied Muslims are being similarly targeted. This is simply not true. Let's be honest about what is happening. Certain groups (in particular but not solely Islamic Extremists) are creating a climate of fear and intimidation that is normalising Jew hatred. I will never stand for that. Governments have spent too long hand-wringing, making excuses and hoping it would go away. It is time to call this what it is: a national emergency in our attitude, our urgency and our response. I will always engage with people who disagree with me. That is politics. But there is a difference between argument and intimidation. Shouting does not make a bad case good. It's done to silence others. And it certainly does not change the truth. The truth is that British Jews have been made to feel less safe in their own country. Our country. They are being singled out, threatened and harassed in ways that should shame everyone in public life. If we do not stand up now and stop this rise in antisemitism, then why bother saying "Never Again" at Holocaust Memorial Day? Because this is how it starts. I am not prepared to play along with the pretence that this is normal, or manageable, or just another example of tension between groups. It really is not. It is targeted hatred and it is getting worse. So my message is simple. Not here. Not in Britain. And not on our watch. We need to stop the hand-wringing and start doing the right thing. That means standing with British Jews openly, unapologetically and without fear.

America tried the same, but the slave owners resisted and this led to a civil war that killed hundreds of thousands of people - some slave owners, but mostly non-slave owning soldiers. Britain chose the practical solution that minimised harm.

Partly true... Britain did play a role in ending the transatlantic slave trade, and public pressure absolutely mattered. But this post leaves out a lot of context. Britain was also one of the biggest drivers and profiteers of slavery for centuries. Huge parts of our wealth and empire were built on it. Abolition didn’t happen in a vacuum, it came after Britain had already benefited massively, and when the system was becoming less useful economically. The 1833 “compensation” loan that was paid off in 2015 didn’t go to enslaved people. It went to slave owners! And “not for land, not for gold” isn’t really accurate either. By that point, Britain’s interests had shifted to industrial trade and empire-building, and “anti-slavery” was often used to justify intervention abroad. So yeh, credit where it’s due for abolition and public pressure. But pretending it was pure self-sacrifice and moral heroism, while ignoring the damage and profit that came before, isn’t honest history. It’s selective patriotism. Real pride comes from telling the full story, not just the flattering bits 🙄
