When Syrian coup leader Ahmed al-Sharaa's HTS was called Al-Nusra, they began executing Syrian soldiers and others and dumping their bodies into the Al-Houta gorge in eastern Syria, what was once a popular tourist attraction. HTS has long operated a mass grave in Idlib province known as the "Al-Ahm death hole" where they would dump beheaded bodies of Syrian soldiers or allied militias, people accused of apostasy, adultery, or homosexuality, and Shia civilians they had murdered.
