My initial reactions: 1. @MercerBaseball & @UTSABSB should be in 2. VT as a 2 seed is surprising 3. UGA got a tough regional 4. NC St was a good choice 5. UCSB pitching vs Tarleton’s offense is fun. 6. LOVE the Eugene Regional 7. KU got an INSANE draw

Selection Monday Takeaways: • Power Conference brands won the day in the 2/3 line fringe area… but I’m not sure they benefit with regional placement (ie. Virginia Tech, Oklahoma, Boston College, Central Florida) • Big 12 received zero love from the committee across the board. Regional hosts of 15 & 16… Kansas with a fair gripe after sweeping the league. Arizona State falls to the 3-line. • C-USA and Sun Belt go 8 for 8, however the C-USA trio all get 3-line placement including Jax State (46 wins, 24 RPI). • Oregon State and USC both get 2-seeds but where they are placed suggests they weren’t in the top grouping for the 2-line. RPIs of 17 and 9, respectively. • Mercer (28) becomes the highest rated RPI team since North Carolina (19) in 2016 to miss the tournament. SoCon only earns one participant as the seventh rated RPI conference while the Sun Belt gets five teams in as the sixth rated. • Where did UTSA fall in the pecking order? Shocked they were not at least mentioned on the First Four Out list. Texas State got the last laugh after all. • Personal interest, I expect Texas to pitch-off Dylan Volantis on Friday against Holy Cross. Will UC-Santa Barbara do the same with Jackson Flora against Tarleton? Possibly sets up must watch Saturday night showdown at Disch-Falk. • Toughest regionals w/out digging too deep in the weeds: Chapel Hill, Hattiesburg, College Station, and Lawrence. Honorable mention: Starkville. • NC State not only gets in but they don’t even have to sweat it. Well played by Elliot Avent… perhaps they will give him a random retirement gift at Plainsman. • Don’t get me started on Kentucky… at some point it’s not SEC depth, and more so that’s just a team that did not perform.
