The situation escalates further when Paul grabs a metal barstool and throws it at him, followed by two additional stools. During the incident, one of Paul’s children—who was sitting on a nearby couch—was struck, later suffering a visible injury described in a police report as a “goose egg” on her head. Authorities responded to the scene after a neighbor reported a disturbance, and officers can be heard in the video attempting to separate the pair. Paul is heard accusing Mortensen of previously throwing her to the ground, a claim she later reiterated to police. Prosecutors ultimately used the footage in their case, which resulted in Paul pleading guilty to a felony charge and receiving three years of probation set to end in August. As part of a plea agreement, several additional charges—including domestic violence in the presence of a child and child abuse—were dropped.
