Tim Buckley - Get on Top
Tim’s fearless embrace of sensuality, both hedonistic and downright horny. Wrestling with inner turmoil, over humid, elastic funk; a man riding a lot more than the groove.
1972.
Watched a brilliant documentary today, The Great Hip-Hop Hoax. Two guys from Dundee go down to London, pretend they are American rappers, and end up getting a record deal with Sony. Don’t get me wrong, it pisses me off they had to hide the fact they’re Scottish, but when they rap in their own accents, they get called the rap Proclaimers. So, fair play, they did what they had to do. And they keep it up around everyone, music executives, tv interviews, recording their debut album. Must have been so intense playing that part 24/7. There’s a film about it coming out soon, and the documentary has been out for years, but it’s on Netflix now. Well worth a watch.
The holy grail of '90s post-hardcore, Fugazi's fabled In On The Kill Taker sessions with Steve Albini, has finally been released 34 years after being shelved loudersound.com/bands-artists/…
For me, my favourite artists, my real top tier faves, draw me into their world and there’s no way out until sleep takes me. I just don’t want to hear anything else. So, the Waits albums continue with the last of the Asylum years, and a subtle hint of where he was going next.
Keith Richards, Gram Parsons, Tony Foutz and Anita Pallenberg being driven around California by Phil Kauffman. 1969.
Within four years Kauffman would drive a hearse into L.A. Airport, steal Parsons’ corpse, set him on fire and leave him by the side of the road at Joshua Tree.
@OnThisDeity Yes shit news for fans of the five over the past few months. Brother Wayne, John Sinclair & now Machine Gun all gone. Thankfully we’ve got three great albums, which is more than some bands can manage.
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young & Jones - Long Time Gone
Big Tom, absolutely reeking of old-time showbiz, hangs with CSNY at the height of their hipness; to much sniggering.
When your dad takes the ball to show you and your friends he can do keepie-ups too
