Menstrual hygiene is fundamental to dignity, health, and uninterrupted learning for every girl child. Yesterday, I had the honour of hosting the Country Director of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Dr. Shaheen Nilofer. The engagement provided a valuable opportunity to showcase the initiatives already underway and to explore how UNICEF can further complement and strengthen these efforts for greater impact. During the visit to the sanitary pad factory, we underscored its pivotal role in advancing menstrual hygiene management. The facility supports the local production of affordable and accessible sanitary products, thereby safeguarding the dignity, health, and school retention of the girl child. In addition, it undertakes the knitting of school uniforms for needy students across the county, further enhancing access to education and easing the burden on vulnerable families. This initiative reflects our steadfast commitment to empowering girls, promoting their wellbeing, and creating an enabling environment in which every child can learn, grow, and thrive without limitation.
