@arnoldhamham @FlintDibble He replied then blocked, but my response is that a personal relationship is perfect grounds for dismissing a favorable opinion of some work. Why would we trust the restaurant owners friends to write the restaurant review?

@arnoldhamham @FlintDibble I would love to engage with why he held it, but unfortunately he has not supplied any reason other than his personal relationship with her, a reason I rightfully dismiss as irrelevant to whether the work is worth liking.

@arnoldhamham @FlintDibble Again, he made no argument, and a personal bias absolutely can and should invalidate an endorsement. The fact that it doesn't is just a failure of both politics and academia.

Zinn’s book doesn’t contain a single footnote; just a bibliography at the end. In grad school I’d have never gotten away with such shoddy sourcing. But Zinn, because he trashes the West, is not only afforded that privilege, he’s required reading in probably every grad school history program. That’s why I despise the smarmy, supercilious turds who admire him and his shitty book. Every, single one of them.

Few books have been as destructive on the minds of the American youth as this one

@BourgeoisieH8er @SaadInCyber I was replied to and then blocked for this comment, which means he probably doesn't want to make any long term predictions about the correctness of his beliefs.

@BourgeoisieH8er @SaadInCyber I predict that no large scale BDS will occur and if it does Israel will simply pivot to other countries not foolish enough to do that. How long do you think it will take for this great BDS movement to finally make Israel "done"?

Correct. You believe Palestinians are oppressed but don't believe in their right to resist by any means necessary, then you are a bigot who supports that oppression.

@sonsofthesoil90 Not supporting Hamas is bigoted now?

🏆 You can tell someone knows they're wrong (deep down in their heart if hearts) when you ask for a timeline on one of their predictions and they block you.

@Unimportanz @FlintDibble Then we agree on my core point. You dismissed his opinion because of personal association, not because you refuted the substance. That’s still judging the source over the merits of the claim, just with more semantic hairsplitting.

The death of literary culture began when professors stopped treating novels as works of art and started treating them as ideological evidence.

@arnoldhamham @FlintDibble When did I say "friendship invalidates the argument"? I said I dismissed his favorable opinion of the work because he has a favorable opinion of the author. Again, an opinion is not an argument, an argument is what supports an opinion.

@Unimportanz @FlintDibble You’re moving the goalposts. First it was ‘friendship invalidates the argument,’ then ‘there was no argument,’ now ‘bias invalidates endorsements.’ Personal bias can affect credibility, but it doesn’t make someone’s opinion false by association.

@Unimportanz @SaadInCyber No offence, but anecdotal cases don't really mean anything. In any case, you asked I answered. Israel is now dying, and the only way it can save itself is to abandon the Zionist project, which it never will.

@Unimportanz @FlintDibble Granted. Still doesn’t rescue the original point. If someone endorses an argument, you can criticise the endorsement or ask for supporting reasons, but dismissing it purely because of friendship is still fallacious reasoning.

@BourgeoisieH8er @SaadInCyber They were mistreated by more than just their governments. In Kuwait and Iraq for example their mistreatment often came at the hands of civilians.

@Unimportanz @FlintDibble An endorsement is still a position you turnip, and dismissing it purely because of friendship is still a fallacy. If you think the argument is weak, rebut the argument itself instead of pretending social proximity magically invalidates opinions. You’re handicapped.

@Unimportanz @FlintDibble Being friendly with someone doesn’t automatically make their argument wrong. Address the actual points instead of trying to dismiss them through association, you handicapped wetwipe.

@Unimportanz @SaadInCyber Israel is the most hated country on the planet, it will only continue being more hated, there's a vast anti-israel consensus in the western world, especially under 40, more politicians are being elected on the basis of anti-israel views. All of these trends intensifying.
