There had been a hope in Downing Street that Peter Mandelson could stay in post as US ambassador till after next week’s state visit by the US president. Those hopes have been shattered by Bloomberg’s publication of the email stash. Picture next week’s joint Starmer/Trump press conference if Mandelson is still in that job. There is an expectation among those close to Starmer that Mandelson will resign today
