Power without a direct mandate always creates distance. The EU has power. Europeans have no direct choice at the top. That contradiction won't disappear by ignoring it.

This is not a call for a “United States of Europe”. This is not an attack on nations, cultures or parliaments. Nations remain. Parliaments remain. What must change is legitimacy: Power at EU level must come from the people — or trust will keep eroding.

The solution is democratic: • One EU-wide election • One directly elected EU President • One 6-year term. No re-election. • Real executive power where the EU already acts • Full transparency Democracy must not stop at borders.
