@AliJones9 Archer is reputedly on £40k a week, so an offset of around £2m if they can get him off their books this window. That would make a £5m fee their break even point for SCR, as they can't count next season's salary in this season's calculation.

Let's do the maths here:- #wba Archer signed for Southampton on a 4 year contract in August 2024 for a reported fee of £15m plus £2-2.6m in add-ons. That fee will be being amortised in Southampton's accounts over 4 years at £3.75m a year - assuming the add-ons clause hasn't been activated - two have which have already been completed. So they go into this financial year with Archer having a net book value of £7.5m, which then will be immediately written down by another £3.75m. That will be shown as an operating loss in their accounts and SCR calculation, leaving Archer with a remaining net book value of £3.75m on the club's balance sheet. However, if they sell Archer this season then his remaining net book value also has to be written down in their accounts this season, increasing the operating loss of £7.5m. So, just to break even on the sale of Archer this season, Southampton need a transfer fee of £7.5m. Anything less than that means booking a loss into their accounts and SCR calculation.

The is no way Cameron Archer is valued more than 7 million that’s crazy for him a good striker but anything over 5 million is mad #wba @WBA

"...he has accepted that he did not personally raise £5.5m for charity, as he has said in the past he did, but that he was part of a “syndicate of 100 people” who raised the money, though he cannot name any of them as he says they all signed non-disclosure agreements." Sorry, what? They all signed NDAs in order to raise money for charity? Why?

Made me laugh. I walked out of a Restaurant of the Year Awards dinner during a presentation by Water Aid when I heard that yellow buckets were being sent to Kenya. I said "Kenya? Kenya has a coast line!" & stepped outside to spare my host embarrassment. archive.ph/heniT

Arday claims major personal triumphs in providing Africans and Latin Americans with water. And behold, the water turned into vinegar! This sounds like textbook white-saviourism. Except it can't be, can it, because…telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/08/0…

Gilchrist looks to have been one of two transfers dictated more by circumstance than planning, as in we didn't get the fee we wanted for Fellows, which forced us to sell Furlong to meet out PSR commitments, which meant doing a quick deal to try to cover the RB position with little time and not much money to play with. FWIW, the other forced deal looks to have been Bielik, who I don't think we'd have touched had Bartley not been forced to retire.

@LewisCox_star @sjpatel212 Some drop for the lad. Played 30+ games for Sheff U (at RB) the year they finished third and almost went up. Seemed an odd purchase for us when we already signed four CBs that summer. Saints game I thought he was MOTM but looked suspect at RB. #wba

Alfie Gilchrist interest. All parties hopeful of loan deal so young defender can, ideally, go and play sufficient games in natural centre-back role. Orient mentioned & others possible. Likely to happen ... more incl. on long-term prospects here. #wba expressandstar.com/sport/football…

@nicowizzyikenna @WBAUnderground Gilchrist's net book value is c£800k, so that's the minimum fee we'd accept to make it a break even deal in this season's SCR calculation.

I feel for him but just hasn’t worked, he’s a very specific type of RB that can only play to tuck into a back 3 or play RCB in a 3. Too small to play CB in back 4 and no place for him in current system. If we can take 1m and call it there would be best #wba

JUST IN: Leyton Orient are in concrete negotiations to sign Alfie Gilchrist from West Brom. #WBA hope to recover the £1.2M transfer fee they paid to Chelsea sign the English right-back in August 2025. #LOFC #OneOrient

FHM is likely to be the central playmaker in a fluid midfield that drops into a 4-4-2 in defence, but with at least three different attacking shapes as options depending on other personnel and opponents - - a 4-4-2 diamond, which would suit HW and IP pretty well, - a 4-1-3-2, with MJ and IP as the wide midfielders, and even - - a 3-5-2, which would see Diakite dropping off to make the defensive three, and both FBs playing high up as wing-backs.

Width under Mozza has come from FB's and he has played HW and IP as inverted wide midfielders almost like wide #10's. This would suit Myhre perfectly after talking to a few Brann Fans. #wba

Felix Horn Myhre's heat map from last season. Lots of people seem to see him playing as part of that double pivot, but personally I can see him in that wide left or right role similar to Price. #wba

@WBAUnderground Unfortunately, our pre-season is about halfway through their season, leaving little time for friendlies. Even if we could arrange a tour, we'd be putting players trying to build fitness up against fully match fit teams, which is a tough ask.

@TheVan FWIW, I asked Grok to look at his stats and any commentary on his playing style and identify the Baggies midfielders from the last 40 years that he most resembles. It came up with Dorrans and Mozza as the two closest matches.

@sjpatel212 4-4-2 will be the defensive shape but, going forward, I think we'll operate with either a midfield diamond or as a 4-1-3-2 with Diakite sitting in front of the back four and Myhre central.

Genuine question but if we finalise the Myhre signing where does he actually play positionally. From the highlights can’t see him as one of the central two CM? With Price on the left would he maybe play off the right, slightly narrow? #wba

@dylanrowe2003 @NickWBA1993 That's what Leicester want to offer, but Orient are using what Blues paid for Jay Stansfield as the benchmark for their valuation of Ballard. They've two year plus an option on his contract, so don't need to take lowball offers.

Ian Pearce will continue get stick from fans he’s been at the club for numerous years without any major successes bar a few cheap buys who made profit. It’s not just him though people above him need to plan better. Most signings that come in now will be rushed through I feel #wba
