@maternalgroyp I do. But the standards apply. If you don’t want your MIL around, then don’t have your mom around. Your husband can help with all of that, and any other postpartum support you get through nurses, doulas, etc. The baby is also your HUSBAND’s. It’s not just about you.

Isn’t the main difference that you are laying there naked, bleeding, milk leaking, and your own mother has seen you naked and it’s your own bloodline but your inlaws it would be way more awkward and inappropriate? Why is waiting an extra 24 hours until you go home and are dressed, settled in, etc. for them to come see the baby a huge deal ?
Taryn@TarynA83

Ladies. I am telling you this right now. Your husband’s family matters when you have a baby. You can say they aren’t allowed in for delivery. You can ask for limited time visits. You can ask for your husband to entertain and introduce the baby if you want to stay in bed. BUT- asking his parents/grandparents to wait to meet them while you let your family in is cruel and selfish. EVEN IF they might annoy you, or his mom is an attention hog, your baby is just as much your husband’s. Your recovery needs matter, but alienating them is wrong.

@fearlessxz @Valyonetta @weirdblackgrl there's no benefit to being coloured especially now, before independence maybe, currently zero. We have no caste system, nothing. Like I said black is the majority, our beauty standards etc are more afrocentric than anything. Your system is completely different to ours.

@UppityAfrican1 @Valyonetta @weirdblackgrl nah they call themselves differently cause they see themselves as trying to reap benefits they wouldnt get if they were blk similiar to very light skin blks during slavery did to try to pass off as white or something else to reap wat they believe are benefits.

@fearlessxz @Valyonetta @weirdblackgrl The African concert of what is black and the American concept is different, vastly so. Being coloured in the American sense is completely different to coloured in the African sense. That difference is what caused problems for her there, we as Africans understood what she meant.

@UppityAfrican1 @Valyonetta @weirdblackgrl Most blk Americans have 20 to 30 percent non blk dna and we don't claim to be any other thing than blk so it's not ok barak obama has a white mom and claims to be blk and the reason tyla doesn't identify to be blk cause she sees it as a slur and tht not ok.

@fearlessxz @Valyonetta @weirdblackgrl In the American context yes, being black the one drop rule applies, so as long as you are mixed automatically you're regarded as black. Tyla as an African she can't claim to be black, she's always embraced the black part of her heritage but you guys don't like her enough to check

@fearlessxz @Valyonetta @weirdblackgrl Especially if your father is not black, then that name, Surname, tribe, culture thing will clearly not relate to you. You would be regarded as African yes , mixed and not black. In Tyla's case neither her mom nor dad is black, so she's not black

@fearlessxz @Valyonetta @weirdblackgrl I am not mixed so there's nothing to reject, but in the African sense, a mixed person cannot claim to be black, see that one drop rule, it's in reverse this side. You can't be considered black if you're mixed, you're coloured. You'll be half black and it's ok.

@Valyonetta @fearlessxz @weirdblackgrl Then as a person I am African, who is also Zimbabwean, Who is a Shona/Zezuru, totem lion, My name and surname is a reflection of who I am. I don't have to announce that I'm black because everyone around me looks like me in different fonts, other races are a distinct minority.

@Valyonetta @fearlessxz @weirdblackgrl For example on my ID is my name, Surname, Country of origin, My ID number contains information such as my village of origin, chief, etc. So in the case something happens to me, and my children want to find out where they are from they can get access to that information

@fearlessxz @weirdblackgrl Tyla is African and by African standards she can never be black. To be regarded as black in Africa everyone in your family tree should be 100% black. You not liking her doesn't add or subtract anything from her.
